Luminous Guide

I saw it first when moon's light was high. A glow, spectral and unearthly, shimmered among the cold, misty wood. The dread I felt not a moment before was quenched by the pale light, harsh against the night's gloom.
"Weary traveler." A voice rung out in the night air. "Long have you wandered blindly in the twilight- your path lost to the vale of night. Follow, and I shall light the way."
Great wings showed a mirror of the night sky, and with it my guide showed me the way.
Under warm light I was brought back to well traveled path by night's end. Relieved to see familiar land I turn to thank my companion only to find him gone.
A heavy dread pulled within me when my mind became clear. A Lanterna, guides to the lost, had found me in that wood. Without them I would have met my end that cold night.
