Biography

The youngest child in a set of quintuplets. When she was turned into an adult, she didn't like how unusual her bigger body felt, so she asked the guy who made her into an adult to turn her back. Considering the energies he used to do so were so chaotic, there wound up being...side-effects. Instead of turning into a child, she just sort of became short, and the slight lisp she'd had became much more pronounced. Not as severe as her mother's muteness, of course, but the speech impediment did come from her.

After leaving the castle, the short lady eventually found herself in the Charged Barrens of the Shifting Expanse. She felt a sort of connection to this part of Sornieth, and the flowing sands and occasional, fleeting arcs of electricity, especially beneath the stars, captured her fascination and imagination. She quite enjoyed it there, and somehow was never around where the electric arcs were dangerous. She was wandering the dunes as usual one night when she saw a caravan rushing through the sand. All around them, arcs of electricity leaped and crashed. Alarmed, the child-minded young woman leaped from the dune she'd just crested and glided down to them, landing on the side of one of their transports. The alarmed merchants were confused by the sudden appearance of this short lady, and they had just lost one of their wagons to a particularly nasty electrical arc. The short one began calling out directions for the caravan to take. Confused but too panicked to question it, they followed these directions. There were some near misses, but everyone who followed her guidance made it safely out of the sparking, charged area, and onto much calmer terrain.

Grateful and astounded by her knowledge of the sands, the merchants thanked the short one and asked her how she knew where to go. The lady herself didn't really know how she'd known, just that she was sure of which directions to take. One of the merchants jovially compared her to a genie, granting all of their wishes to get out of there. Another joked that she was a cute midget genie, then. Liking the sound of that (she thought it sounded fun and cute), the lady decided to call herself Idjinni, as a combination of the words "midget" and "genie." The grateful merchants also gave her various gifts, including little hard candies, and new clothes that suited the desert. She was fascinated by the gifts, and gleefully accepted and enjoyed them. The merchants found her childlike behavior fun, not realizing that she did indeed have a child's mentality.

From then on, Idjinni decided to stay in the desert, helping caravans who were in dangerous parts of it cross it, in exchange for some gifts. She gained the reputation as "The Genie of the Charged Barrens," and eventually even evolved her guidance into a business, offering to guide caravans from a town on the edge between Carrion Canyon and the Charged Barrens through the desert in exchange for payment. She now lives in this town on the edge of the desert (mostly so that others have an easier time accessing her, and because she needed a place to store and spend the wealth she'd collected from her job), but even when not guiding anyone, often wanders the desert at night to enjoy the scenery.

Besides inheriting much of her father's appearance and her wings somewhat resembling that of her mother's, she also clearly inherited her mother's bold, fun-loving, and adventurous spirit. Meanwhile, though she cannot see magical auras as her father can, she can sense where magic is coalesced, and how it moves. Though she doesn't realize exactly what she's doing, she has a sense of knowing where these magical energies are, which is why she can guide people through the desert so well -- she intuitively knows where the magical currents are building up and releasing. That said, she doesn't realize what she inherited from whom as she never met her father and doesn't remember her mother, nor does she feel inclined to reflect on things like that. She'd much rather enjoy the moment, whatever's happening around her at the time.

Over time, Idjinni discovered some things about herself. First, she was somewhat competitive. She'd get excited when presented with a dare or a challenge, and if she didn't feel like blowing it off, she threw herself into it. This was especially true if she wanted to prove something, such as being a good guide. Another thing she discovered was her love of spice. Spicy foods of all sorts are her favorites, and she enjoys participating in spicy food eating challenges. She also does have a calm side. When she relaxes, she enjoys nothing more than the nighttime desert sky and a thermos filled with hot, spiced tea. Cinnamon is her favorite spice overall, though, as mentioned, she's enthusiastic about just about every spice.

Wound up making a friend at the Warrior's Way event. Both were spectators. There's a bit of a communication barrier since Idjinni can't sign, but they're both cool with it and just pretend to know what each other is trying to say. If she felt like it, she could remember that the other one is actually her mom, but doesn't particularly care and prefers to just think of her as a new, fun friend.

Guided some dragons through the Charged Barrens in this thread!

April Fool's Day 2022: "Mistakes were made. You can probably try again, though." This really fits her nonchalant attitude toward things that she should probably take more seriously. Let's hope no one she was escorting across the Charged Barrens died.
