Funk

I woke up hungry. The egg I came from had been chewed into slimy bits. I have no teeth. Only hunger. I crave substance between my jaws. I cannot think. I only know that I feel the need. The want. The drive. Conquer. Conquer and consume. Mother will be so proud. Not my matron, no. The Mother of my making, who gave me this desire to possess and conquer.

A screech from above - a shadow with red eyes descending upon the clan. A feral, snarling Fae lands with a thud. Small, but this growling menace threatens to bite the gathered clan members. The Fae stands on its hind legs, towering over Havoc, who stands her ground between the stranger and her clan. Yet, it only looks at her in disdain. Expecting something primal in its primitive mind. The Fae stares in all directions, eyes surveying the grounds, then it walks away to flutter to a nearby tree where it begins to make a nest of sap.

Funk stares disdainfully down to the gathered nameless clan with his many eyes as he finishes his nest. Only when all of his eyes are closed and his breathing slows does the clan breath easier, knowing he sleeps. They slowly disperse in ones and twos, silently stealing away on the tips of their toes to not wake the fearsome little beast that slumbers above.

Only one dragon is left. She stares at the tree with sightless eyes, then draws a deep breath...

"Everyone calm down," Calla says, shielding the new dragon with a protective wing. "What makes them any different than any of us? They have more eyes. That is all. Every single one of you calm down." Her voice turns to a growl as the sleeping dragon wakes. She regains her gentle tone as she turns to the new dragon. "Hello sweetie, what's your name?" The dragon bites and snaps at her and everyone else moves back in fear.
Scarlet steps forward as if to come between them. "Mother, please allow me--"
Calla raises her tail to stop her. "I can handle this, darling. I've faced far worse than you can ever imagine and I will not be bested by a feral young one with more eyes than me."
The multi-gaze dragon calms down a little at her voice. The blind hunger is still there, but they stall to act on it. And yet, Calla's claw is very close.
"Oh. Are you hungry, sweetheart?" is all Calla says when the dragon bites her, gumming her hand as if to suck out her essence.
Sandstorm shivers and smacks the dragon away from his mate.
"I said I can handle this. This dragon doesn't even have teeth. Stand down." Calla shoots her mate a glare and looks back at the new dragon. "You're not telling me you feed on the life energy of dragons."
Angel speaks up. "Calla...that's entirely possible. It's very rare. Perhaps they were born with a magic deficiency of some kind."
"I see," Calla nods, offering her tail instead to the multi-gaze dragon. They feast upon the tail like a vampire and Calla feels weaker, but allows it. "Will it kill me to give them what they need?"
The rest of the clan watch is horror and turn to Angel for her reply. "You, no. Older dragons, the older the better, who have stored up more magical energy, can afford to spare some of their essence. But Calla, having a dragon like this can be dangerous--"
"Angel, you're not suggesting I get rid of this dragon because of how they were born? Look at them. They're far too young to not have been born like this. If I put them down right now, I'll never be able to live with myself. If I leave them to go their own way, they're a danger to everyone around." Calla nuzzles their head as they finally let go of her tail. "They're better off in my care and anyone who objects can leave."
No one else objects after that.
