"I can't believe I'm finally out of that statue,
boy was THAT ever boring. Hey so, what's
new in Sornieth guys.. apart from me?!"

Talkative | Easily-distracted | Enthusiastic
When Digger and his crew returned from the Dustcarve Dig - having represented The Lastsparks in the historical event - he bought back a memento of their participation. It was a statue of a creature carved from dark stone that glittered with fragments of pink, arcane-like crystal. This was quite surprising considering that the dig had taken place in the domain of the Earthshaker, who was said to have carved the idols himself. Nevertheless, the statue was placed in the Oddments Cavern which housed all the other strange objects that the Lastsparks had collected over the years, and was soon forgotten about by most.

A week later, while taking it upon himself to update the catalog of Oddities, Medeis, a pompous arcane mage, decided to examine the statue, convinced that he alone could discover its secrets. The dragon ran his paws greedily over the surface, marvelling at every detail. A flicker of static shock made Medeis jump, and a spark of magic left his claw tips and was instantly absorbed by the idol. The pieces of embedded crystal began to glow softly, and before the blustering bogsneak (who had realised that something seriously weird was about to happen and that he would definitely be blamed) could make a hasty exit, a crack appeared in the statue’s surface.

Sensing a shift in magical energy, several of the clan's sorcerers burst into the room, followed by Laurel, the clan leader. They had arrived just in time to witness the statue shatter in a burst of pink light as fragments of stone and crystal swirled in the air, forming shapes from the cloud of dust. When it had settled, hovering in mid air was a dragon-like creature with a huge maw of large teeth and a misshapen muzzle. Above that, two pieces of faceted quartz had settled into the eye sockets, and many horns protruded from the skull, their sharp tips shining in the candlelight. Bizarre smoke twisted in misty ropes around the beast as it tossed its mane and surveyed the room.

Laurel stepped forward slowly, her arms raised in a gesture of peace, and spoke in a clear and calm voice "Greetings, stranger. You have appeared from a statue carved by the Earthshaker and gifted to our clan. We are The Lastsparks of the Shifting Expanse, who might you be?"

A brief silence followed as the floating dragon considered these words, and then it replied "Oh. My. Actual. GODS! Hey there! I'm Dichroite, or just call me Dich, both are good. I'm super psyched to be here guys, this is totally exciting! Wow, I'm in the Shifting Expanse? So random! This is all just really, really cool. Wait, why are you all looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong? I've never spoken before until literally just now so this is all new to me, some of the words sound funny in my mouth, and my tongue - whoa, that thing is weird! Oh, it's my face isn't it, duh! Just a sec.."

Dichroite screwed up his eyes and began to glow brightly, and several seconds later had become a fairly normal-looking obelisk dragon, albeit with faceted gem-like eyes that twinkled as he grinned in amusement at the group's shocked faces. "Sorry about that guys, my bad! So I have two looks - the freaky one you just saw is my Blessed Form, and this one is my True Form. Crazy right?! My statue was carved from meteorite and blessed by the Arcanist for the Earthshaker to use in some special project or whatever. I think I heard them say that obelisks were created to bring balance? I can't be totally sure because it's really hard to like, hear clearly when you're a spirit trapped in stone. But I got the feeling that my Blessed Form is either for a battle, or for preventing a battle. Pretty cool eh?!"

Dichroite beamed around at them, waiting for someone to speak. At the back someone coughed, then Laurel walked to the obelisk and shook his paw warmly, thanking him for his introduction. With the silence broken, the gathered dragons gave Dich a little round of applause as he came to greet them. Eager to see more of The Lastsparks' lair, the obelisk was brought into the main atrium where the rest of the residents were gathered waiting for news. When explanations and more introductions had been given, Dichroite was taken on a tour before being formally extended an offer of clan membership, which he accepted with much squealing and paw-clapping.

As his moniker was carved into the stone wall of the atrium alongside the other clan member's names, Dich burst with pride, and took to the air to wave at the residents, showering them with compliments and promises. Overcome with emotion, the obelisk began glowing, and suddenly there was a cry of shock and a collective gasp. Dichroite, puzzled, landed on the floor in surprise. "What's up you guys? Oh wait, has my face slipped? Eeek, how embarrassing, don't post this on Instaderg!"
