In the years before the Hydro faction, there was great strife between two clans living in the Sea of a Thousand Currents; one slept above the waves, while the other dreamt deep within the waters. They constantly quarreled over resources, ideology and territory, leaving ruins in their wake as they scrambled for the upper hand. And, it was in the surface clan that Vathyea was born.

Growing up around constant chaos, she was relatively indifferent to her family's battles, finding nothing more inane then listening to her parents ramble on about the deep clan's antics. This drove her out of her home den most evenings, drawn to the waves where, somewhere far below, this so called "rival" clan laid in waiting. It was there on one fateful night, that she met Endellion; a curious Ridgeback from the deep with a sacred relic, the two connected over their familial frustrations. Night after night, Vathyea would sneak from her parents to spend time with her newfound friend, baffled at how the deep clan could be such a nuisance when they all were just vying for knowledge and a place to rest their wings.

Eventually, however, the conflict between land and sea grew tumultuous, and on the eve of Wavecrest Saturnalia, a massive storm brewed in the ocean. Waves the size of the Elder Gods threatened to drown any land-dwelling dragon, while savage currents sped throughout the deep clan, dredging up debris long buried in the sand. Helpless in the tsunami, Vathyea watched in horror as her parents were swept into the waves. And yet, she dove in after them, able only to toss them to the shore before she was swallowed by the water. The last anyone heard from her was a tiny cry that bubbled from below before the storm subsided. But, the last thing Vathyea remembered was the sound of her friend's voice, and the warmth of a summer breeze on her chest.

The formation of the Hydro faction after the storm indicated the cooling of tempers at long last, Endellion at the head. Vathyea was pleased to learn of this development, but politely declined when offered to join her friend. Nobody knew what Endellion had done for her, and although few would ever recognize her now, she wouldn't want to backpedal on great progress. She was just as happy to watch from the sidelines.
