"Torn between worlds though tethered to one. A story in the making and realities undone."
5lK8DGC.png
Bonivish-S-1-5.png
Mythrine sees more than anyone should. The Veil, the In-Between, slips through into her world surrounding her with the knowledge of infinite possibilities of what could be. Like millions of woven string they lead and intertwine so tightly yet with a small movement, the whole array is changed. It's a stunning masterpiece that entrances her and she loses sight of her own reality.

The flower she carries was crafted with her own magic and each piece carefully chosen. The petals cut from the fabric of reality itself from those whose stories are forgotten. And then sewn using the threads of paths that never went anywhere, dreams never followed, and hopes that were lost. Mythrine keeps it with her for if it were to be separated when out of the Veil it would dissolve, not belonging in that world. However, it attracts the magic of the In-Between so the pieces that find their way through the Veil are less haphazard and harsh in how they whirl around her.

"Time is something I do not quite understand. It is spoken about as if it holds all the importance yet I do not see it. The concept is familiar but the aspect in which it is practiced in the realities is foreign."

|| The Timeless One ||
Mythrine rose with an ethereal grace from the ashes, however, just as soon as she rose she went up in flames--as if the moment she came to be she also ceased to exist. Her fiery red rings extended as she slipped between realities. Where the Veil between life and death is uncertain, and there are endless possibilities of what could be. Her current world marked by the strong pulsing glow that no other had. No longer bound to a physical form she saw all and it hurt. The knowledge of everything fractured her thoughts. The tether to the world she lived in dragged her back and as it did so she burned.

Mythrine was reborn once again and this time a new shape took over. She now blazed with energy, crackling with magic. Her sight forever changed. What once was a clear view of the world was shattered into multiple pieces. The infinity paths seemed to follow her, no longer bound to that place in between. She shut her eyes and as her magic calmed the paths no longer shifted so viciously, no longer clawed and bombarded her. Yet her head now throbbed. She saw threads of possible realities that could have been and could be. So many choices that could change with a single action, a simple step in either direction changing the course of the future.

It was mesmerizing.

B6wDkjL.png

And though she saw the approaching wildclaw through the twinning threads that leaked from the In-Between, the knowledge of the Veil kept her imprisoned in a stony stillness. It was only when the wildclaw tapped her lightly did the spell break and the realities quieted, once again fading into the background.

"Careful Timeless One, the magic that is drawn to you is not meant for the living."

gJIGxXj.png

The wind blew and she folded her wings close to her side, clarity washing over her like a waterfall. She tilted her head inquisitively. Her speech was as strange as she was with an ancient lilt. Her words seem to be filtered as if she had to work extra hard to formulate the correct phrasing. "Would you be kind enough to enlighten me as to what you mean? Are you not of the living yourself?"

"I understand enough to know that there is a reason the living to do tent to meddle in such areas. Those that do, well, it tends to be rough for them. Time is meant to be a linear path. The past, the present, and the future, all following each other in a nice line. Those that see more have trouble understanding where they belong. It messes with the mind and once found can never be given back."

"Indeed..." Mythrine nodded. "Yes, I can see how one could be lost within the threads. The magic and knowledge are no small things, so very easy to lose your grasp on which one present is your own, and that is deadly. Do you see it as well?" She motions to the air as it shimmered in her view.

The wildclaw glanced around and shrugged. "Probably not in the sense you mean."

She hesitated before asking, "Have you seen the In-Between? Or perhaps you know it as the Veil?"

The wildclaw studied her before taking the sword out of its sheath. The dark metal glinted and it was only then did Mythrine feel the thrum of ancient power, so familiar it shocked her. It was cool yet chaotic. Similar to the threads yet the complete opposite.

"It allows me to enter the In-Between, Timeless One."

"Why do you call me that..." and then after a moment she tacked on, "I am called Mythrine and you?"

"Is that not what you are? Mayhaps not in the conventional sense. Your views are not changed by time, as most know it, but by your knowledge of time is infinite. You likely do not age nor will you grow as others do. Time is seemingly meaningless and yet it is also everything to you." The wildclaw spoke in a calm cadence, picking and choosing words carefully. "I go by the name of Cynefin (ku-nev-in). Do not fear me, Mythrine. I can see the questions in your eyes. I understand because, in a way, I am the same. Time moves differently and the Veil calls to me as it does you."

KLRYUsP.png

|| The Fragmented Ones ||
The fabric of reality rippled as Cynefin tore it open and allowed them to step through. Mythrine could feel her physical form falter and the magic bubbled, causing her to just be. When she "looked" at Cynefin, or rather, focused her thoughts towards where she thought the wildclaw would be, she found that they had maintained a semi-tangible form.

"You have to will it. The Veil is made up of possibilities, you simply have to choose the possibility of still being."
xvhw3Zn.png

The threads were countless and as she let the death grip on her magic subside the knowledge came flooding forward. As Cynefin has said she simply decided she wanted a material form, call on some of her magic, and chose accordingly. First, her wings and then the rest following, blazing bright in this uncertain place.

"What is that?" She motioned to a wisp. A delicate sphere that blinked in and out as it floating aimlessly. Though a lose thread tethered it to a shimmering Veil, a reality, as she willed it on it snapped. Floating, now, aimlessly through the In-Between. "All things have a reality, do they not? Even us being in the Veil is simply our present time. We are tied to our own world."

clDs4RZ.png "Hopes, dreams, paths unfollowing. What could have been but was not. Those wisps are chances and desires that went unfulfilled for whatever reason in that reality. When there is no hope they will be following or obtained they simply leave. No longer needed. It is rather sad, is it not?" The wildclaw reached out a claw and pulled a sphere closer. The wispy substance flickered, this one a deep green. "And when there is no hope, dreams cannot live. Simply forgotten." As they spoke the sphere fell apart and it dissipated.

Mythrine stared, "Where does it go?"

Cynefin motioned around. "Most likely it enters the cycle again. Becomes part of the In-Between, the fabric of reality, and will eventually form again. Stitching itself into another world as a different path. Perhaps that time it will be followed."

YscphnT.png

|| The Lost Ones ||
She watched as the magic swirled in a brilliant display of colours. The forgotten dreams and aspirations that were mere wisps of ideas touched her. The brighter and more vibrant they were the newer, whereas those who were dull and flickering were old, ready to return to the cycle. The wisps flitted and danced before her as if Mythrine was their saving grace. They seemed to bask in the magic aura that hung in the air around her as she travelled through the Veil.

However, when Mythrine tried to imbue her magic it only lit them up for a moment. It hung on just long enough to grow heavier but it was as if they were already at their capacity and simply were incapable of carrying more.
KJXQcA1.png

As she pondered this predicament the Veil trembled and millions of threads began to change. There was someone else, very familiar, now within the same lands. Perhaps they would be able to advise. Cynefin only dealt with the Veil, not with the possibilities within. Mythrine made up her mind to visit her brother Korvax in the near future.
***

They were lost and had been for some time. Wandering aimlessly through the dark, alone, with nothing. The more time passed, the further the path seemed to get. They were simply the hopes and dreams that could have been but weren't. And then a warm fire flickered amidst the unfeeling void. As the presence of a dragon came closer the world around lit up. Millions of strands of light seemed to flicker around like stars in the night sky but before they saw too much Mythrine encased them in her magic, protecting them from the In-Between. She could feel their desperation and she was sad for they knew they had been tossed aside.

"You have been forgotten and you are not yet ready to enter the cycle again." Though the wisps could not speak, Mythrine got the distinct feeling of sorrow with a hint of war hope. "I am here to give you a second chance." Though they would not remember the full extent of the lives they were attached to before, Mythrine, herself felt bad for these hopes and dreams that were never given a chance.

vnzi22K.png She waited for what she thought was merely a moment before letting the first traces of her magic sink in. The wisps dimmed flickered as if the power was too much before glowing brighter than ever before and gaining new hues. Mythrine wrapped more magic around them as she felt the flames grow, evolving into something more. She sought the thread that tethered her to her reality and followed it to her timeline. Holding the wisps closely she tried to move them through the Veil. They struggled, sparking, and sputtering in danger of going out. The Veil was heavy and the mystical air they were used to could not be found on the other side. Yet their desire grew stronger yet as they tried to become of the living Mythine could see a thin almost transparent mist that settled over them.

Mythrine opened the Veil just a bit more to let them slip through and then there was a surge of energy as they blazed with life. Albeit, it made her pause. They felt old--too old. Not of this time. Something was strange and they didn't feel right, they were heavier than they should be.

She examined the sphere that was not yet solid. They began to harden and became more egg-like as the days went by. Their aura remained the same, however, and she pondered over the depth she felt. It was like... like they knew what life held and craved what they could not have. Mythrine looked down at the eggs. When she spoke it over with Cynefin she became more certain of her answer. She had thought they were ready, but as Cynefin had pointed out before, time and paths worked differently for her and so Mythrine, at she was now, could not truly understand what the wisps went through. They needed to let go, forget, but Mythrine would need help understanding this process. She would seek out her brother, Korvax, before she attempted to bring more wisps into the world of the living.

T4maYY4.png

|| The Forgotten Ones ||
The wisp, or rather, they were a dragon now that had been brought across the Veil. Mythrine looked down upon the dragon and the strands from the veil danced. Almost like a night sky it shimmered around them reaching further than they should. It only confirmed her suspicions--they remembered too much. Their eyes gave away their history and they would have to stay close to her to keep them settled in this world.

They were pieces from a different reality, a broken thread, and she had thought it was as simple as tying them to a new string in order for the stitch to continue. However, Mythrine had failed to cut off the fraying edges and it left them with memories that would haunt them in this new life.
abCN6LC.png

She sought out Cynefin who only shook his head and told her he would be of no help, for he dealt with the veil, not the wisps. The hatch trailed behind her as she was the only thing that calmed them when their past and present clashed, warring within. Remnants of a past life lingered. The time she spent in the In-Between gave no hints, it was rather puzzling.

Only a few days later, or she thought it was only a few days, Cynefin brought her a letter. It was a request from her brother to see her. She decided to head out that moment to speak with him, another powerful dragon in his own right. Many things cause a ripple in the different realities and changes in the potential paths, but when Korvax was born it was like a splash. While she could not trace him, Mythrine could see the threads belonging to others that branched off, it was like a prismatic glow.

Mythrine travelled through the Veil until she found the source of the pulsing power she had come to associate with Korvax. While she could go through to him as he did request to see her, Mythrine needed him on this side of the Veil to show him the wisps. It would also help in keeping other dragons she knew were around, away as Mythrine did not want to be barraged with questions nor while she didn’t fully understand the basics of the world of the living.

Gathering her magic she sent a wave of it at the tear, willing it to become a gateway of sorts. The magic spilt over and it caused the threads in the Veil to light up in response.

FfRfn0J.png
It wasn't long before an earthy toned fae came through. However, the draw to the knowledge of the strands was compelling. It was only when a small wave in front of her face registered did she snap back to the present. Mythrine took in her brother. He was different as she had noted previously and that was peculier. Even more so to feel rather than just understand it. The threads that normally clung to souls were there but almost transparent. Difficult to read. He wore glasses that gave him a studious look and a simple style of scholarly clothing.

“Oh, hello.” She tried to mimic Cynefin’s tone to cover the ancient lilt, though she was fairly certain she hadn’t succeeded and dropped it on the next sentence. “So you are my older brother. I’ve heard of you or maybe heard is not quite the right word.”

“So they tell me. But that’s not why I asked to see you. Let’s talk about dreams.”

Mythrine tilted her head, while she thought she could infer what he meant, it was better to be certain, and Korvax was the definition of uncertainty in her mind. "Dreams. Do you seek help with yours? If so, I am afraid the threads of possibilities that surround you are rather blurred. Quite strange if I must say."

Korvax shook his head. “Not me, but my hatchlings. I brought souls back from the Veil, but the process damaged them. They despair and are plagued by nightmares. I suspect they lack dreams, hope. Can you help them?”

“Indeed, to lack ambition, or even a hope is a difficult thing. Especially for those who returned from the Veil. Yes, I think so. However, I must request your help in return."

Korvax asked, “What can I do that you can’t?”

"Forget. You were born here," Mythrine motioned around. The strands seem to make up a universe, the stars in the dark. They shone like beacons beckoning for her to take a look and learn their secrets. "Your power was created from the tattered scraps of Willow's descendants that were pieced together again. You are of the River Lethe and I need your help as you can manipulate memories.”

“Hold on,” the fae held up his hand as he adjusted his glasses with the other. “How can you know all this about me? We only just met.”

“While I have no such power of memories, I still have magic.” Mythrine stated this as if it explained much. “Maybe once there was a time I could have done as you do but one has to understand something before they can use the magic alongside it. For I see so much I don’t quite know what it is to forget. I’m sure I do forget some things but the concept is not fully there as there is much within range for me to see.”

“So... how can I help you? You haven’t exactly explained that bit,” Korvax pointed out.

Mythrine nodded in agreement and continued, “You see, I too have been experimenting with bringing those from the Veil back into the world of the living, but my hatchlings, they remember too much from their pasts. Even though the memories are fragmented, they themselves are crafted from lost hopes and forgotten dreams, and nothing hurts them more than remembering a life where they could never succeed and were nothing more than afterthoughts and regrets. Or worse still, if they try to live a life that is gone. It seems like our issues are balanced and that we can help each other in this goal."

“I can take a look and see what I can do.” Korvax seemed to think for a moment before adding on, “You never did explain how you knew so much about me. Would you be kind enough to explain that?”

Mythrine smiled and worked to formulate her thoughts into words that could be shared. "Do you not know more than others would expect as well? I know much, I see more than one can imagine. Your birth caused a ripple and though your paths are muddled, which if I might add is rather refreshing. You were the center of a great change and diverging possibilities, it would be difficult not to investigate. I know you, brother, and perhaps you will know me as well."
EWz3Hoi.png

Korvax fell silent as he took in this information. Mythrine, however, wanted to get Korvax’s thoughts on the wisps and she knew if she let him he’d overthink so she clapped once to gain his attention.

“So, let’s get started, shall we?”

More lore that I can't be bothered to put into story format right now:
Morrow and Lucent are half-siblings to Mythrine. They have travelled far to seek out Mythrine. While Morrow is more closed off he was also infected with the Keir Efinar as a hatchling. Lucent on the other hand was taken away by Morrow before the Keir Efinar could touch her and with her magic she has helped Morrow get a handle on the plague by slowly chipping away at it.

Lucent's innate magic helps suppress Mythrine's sight of the Veil and it rarely drags her under without her deliberately trying to go there. The magic that allowed Myth to see between realities was also taking over her life as it was very difficult for her to stay in one reality for long. As a result of Lucent's magic helping her control her's Myth is learning to live in the present. It's a confusing time because she is used to know what will, what has, and what is at any given moment.
