Relic

They stand at the bank of the River Lethe. Magic flowers around them as Korvax studies the swirling waters while Mythrine looks at the threads in the sky. They can feel the Veil becoming thinner, land of the living and the land of the dead draw closer together as the magic in the air builds.

They've taught each other what is needed in order to help these new souls to cross back over the Veil. Some need to look to the future while others must let go of the past.

The height of the equinox arrives with a crash. The Veil seems to shake and magic sparks and flickers between iridescence and transparency, brilliant and cloudy. Korvax and Mythrine begin to weave their magic to bring their chosen souls to the world of the living.

There seemed to be nothing, just a listlessness. For they were mere wisps created from choices not chosen, opportunities not taken, and dreams that were all but forgotten. Fractured pieces of what could have been. They were left to wander, not truly conscious or aware of anything.

A shift was felt in the Veil and the new presence caused the wisps to gather like a moth drawn to light. The aimlessness abated as the magic wrapped around them like a blanket. They felt a pull as Mythrine's magic flared. It swept through them like a wave mending old scars while awakening something new. It burned, it hurt, and the newly created souls were blinded by the flurry of colours.

The flame of life burned brightly.

The two switched places within the river Lethe, which destiny once demanded Korvax's first born daughter to be Mythrine's, while Mythrine's second son was to be Korvax's. They finally found each other, the true Phlegethon with colors as bright as the sunrise, and the true Relic with the colors of the fading sunset. Destiny thwarted for reasons unknown to all.... The two have found each other once again, bearing the others name.

He cherishes his colors, giving to him by fate, he does. He does... But he doesn't feel like himself. He looks over Lethe sometimes, trying to connect with Mythrine. Blood doesn't seem thick, as some say. So he tries the water, the river. Maybe he can connect with Korvax instead. He feels... something. Just a little, just a spark somewhere within him. He feels guilt, as he decides to leave his birthplace, and look for a purpose. Relic cherishes the final sunset he sees at the calm river, and decides he shouldn't look like it, when he couldn't bear the burden of fate. So he takes on a different coat, more akin to Veil, more akin to Korvax.

As he travels, he feels a spark, again. But stronger than one he felt before. So he looks for the source, and finds another like himself. He knows the other senses him, but is suspicious, unknowing of Relic's intention. So, instead of overthinking, Relic tries "You...Sunset by Lethe?". After a moment of silence, he wonders if the other is ignoring him, if he imagined the connection. As he muses, the other dragon turns to him. Curiosity, and understanding are the emotions Relic could read from the other's face, among others that he didn't catch. "And you, a moth from the Void?" Relic considers, then nods. "And drawn to the Sunset from the same, yet different source."
