A pile of blood-red fur lurks alone in the corner of the lair. It’s only Verse, wading deep through his feelings. No other dragons seem to approach him. His intimidating stature and foreboding presence tends to keep them away. He doesn’t wield his domineering presence like a weapon. It’s more akin to a passive perk that helps with being left alone. He spends much of his time alone, and has conflicting feelings about it. On the one hand, he prefers to prevent others from meddling in his emotional business. On the other, he occasionally wishes for some company. Some very particular company. Noz’s company. Tragically, the bookish Coatl won’t give him the time of day. This leads to an immense amount of pining. Verse will spend hours upon hours by lakes and pools, staring at his reflection. Questions circle endlessly through his mind: Does he know? Does he feel the same? Perhaps he doesn’t. Why would he? I wish he’d just look at me. Wouldn’t we be lovely together? Et cetera, et cetera, for all eternity and beyond. He would do anything for Noz. If only he’d return his affections. Verse’s beloved is a bookworm, which has led the Gaoler himself to peruse quite the supply of ancient tomes. He longs to connect with him over his interest and has accidentally developed quite the hobby in his own right. From classic draconian literature to scientific treatises, he’s slowly transforming into a scholar. He rarely understands much of the material he consumes, but sometimes if he reads in proximity to Noz, he notices him. Noz will ask what Verse is, reading and Verse will do a terrible job of explaining the contents of the book. Noz will, in turn, explain that he has already read that book, and that he was merely interested in hearing another dragon’s opinion. Then he’ll walk away, leaving Verse with an even deeper desire to figure out what exactly he is reading. The unfortunate comedy of their dynamic amuses their clanmates. The other dragons also pity Verse, hoping that eventually he’ll either win Noz over or move on. The pining’s getting to be a little… much. All signs point to this one-sided romance lasting a very long time. Verse is besotted, and it’s unlikely that his feelings are going to change. When he isn’t daydreaming about Noz, writing about him in his journal, or following him around like a lost puppy, Verse likes to write poetry. Admittedly, much of that involves Noz as well, but sometimes he’ll land upon other subjects. His more lyrical pieces are really quite moving. There’s a whimsical yet somber nature to his work. Emotion swirls in little snowdrifts through the pages. He never shows his poems to anyone and keeps them locked away in a hidden treasure chest. He doesn’t want his clanmates to see the inner workings of his heart and hopes to remain a mystery to all save for his one true love. |
