“As someone who has a long history of not understanding anything, I feel confident in my ability to continue not knowing what is going on.”

The Pearlcatcher just appeared. No one really knows where he was from before he stumbled into the Foxfire Bramble only briefly after Corvi had set up her newfound clan. Accompanying him was his lofty mate, Azura. Neither of them spoke of their previous lives, but over time began to open up, only a bit. Alpine could control weapons, and this proved to be very useful. Azura could paralyze those who looked upon the gold flecks on her body. Working together, they made a fortune of treasure for the clan through mildly illegal means.

The clan was extremely successful, and Alpine was extremely arrogant at this point, until he discovered the limits of Azura’s power. Until he discovered the one Pearlcatcher who seemed absolutely unaffected by Azura’s paralysis abilities, and murdered her in only one strike. Alpine was allowed a brief amount of time to escape with Azura’s corpse, looked upon by the smug god stained in blood. After this incident, Alpine shut his business down and refused to exit his home. Taking pity on him, the Guardian whom Alpine had rescued and a smitten Imperial visited him for months in order to slowly wean him out of his misery.

It worked. Alpine did, eventually, reopen his business by himself, years later in his immortal life. No longer was he the arrogant shopkeeper, selling weapons to well-known warriors. He was humbled, broken, but he was not completely bowed down. In his spare time, the grief-ridden Pearlcatcher secretly crafted the ultimate weapon. A weapon that could kill a god.
