Wake always knew there was more beneath the midnight sky than simply dragons and gods and— and beastclans, probably. He wasn't entirely sure. And the other dragons called him nuts from time to time, this was true, and their words had hurt once upon a time. For back when Wake cared enough to listen to their yammering pessimism, and he'd been young and uncertain and desperate to fit in, it had hurt to be called freak and crazy and all things in-between. Eventually, it stopped hurting quite so much, and Wake learned to put his own opinion first. And with a hardened heart, and a blaringly bright dream, Wake set out into the world to convince others that he was right. He would prove to them, to all of them, that the problem was not that he was crazy, but that they were blind. Blind to the wonder of the night sky, blind to the winking stars trying to whisper their secrets, and blind to the possibilities of space. Oh, yes, Wake would convince them, and get them to admit that they were not alone in the vastness of space. Because aliens were real, and Wake knew it, and one day they would all see that he'd been right all along. | ___ |
