Cardamom

Cardamom, the hapless mate of Parsley, is one of The Meadow's progenitors. Born as a Mirror, he lived for several years cultivating the flower fields The Meadow is now so famous for, but after a certain point in time, while it was nice, the relaxation was starting to feel more like monotony.

One morning in the fields he found himself shaken awake by Parsley, who excitedly told himof a dream she had involving a daring pirate ship chase and badgered him to take a trip to the sea. The two went together, full of nervous energy, and enlisted the help of some local sailors to take a quick vacation out on the ocean.

Alas, Parsley's dream came true; a series of mishaps involving a deadly storm, a shipwreck, dozens of Maren, some compassionate and others less so, led to a very strange transmogrification that transformed both Parsley and Cardamom first into Gaolers, and then into sea lions.

From this moment forward, all their offspring are Gaolers as their "true" form is as well, but they are no longer capable of dragonspeech. Fortunately, thanks to the local university, they have both learned to sign adeptly as well as write just as well as before, and in a strange way, the pair's new state has been actually quite an exhilarating adventure.
