Down the darkened forest path ensnared by vine and tangled trees a crumbling cottage hides in swathes of shadow. Long forgotten it falls to time's will, windows cracked and broken, floors littered with leaves and twigs. But something begins to stir among what is dark and dry, forming under the dulled moon. A pool of black gathers in a nest of roots protruding through the floor, spinning and weaving into two wings, four limbs and eyes that gleam with shadow pride. From darkness she comes and to darkness she goes, feeling for the sensation of magic in her veins as she slips into nothing, vanishing from sight.

Upon her reappearance, she finds herself in a land too bright, surrounded by dragons of all different flights, sizes and breeds she's never seen. They stare at this dragon so small, still new and unsure. Marena is the name they give her and among them, she grows. However, this young dragon finds nothing but trouble. Secrets that aren't meant to be uncovered, rooms that must remain hidden - all is bared before her ability to sniff out things hidden in the dark. For this her clan avoids her, worry tapping on their shoulders, reminding them of all she can see and all she can find. Thus to the forest she took, building a home on the outskirts of the clan, becoming her new place to dwell.

Marena is a dragon full of spite with a knack for holding grudges - if anybody could hold a grudge it was Marena and those who wronged her were not dragons she'd soon forget. But more than that, she was a storyteller, able to thread her words together into an enchanting tale. A magnificent trait she often used to weasel her way out of trouble. 'The Witch of the Forest' some call her, speaking freely of her unforgiving ways and the haggard way she dresses that screams of witchcraft. However, even a dragon such as herself holds something dear. She loves the serenity of nature, preferring her residence in the forest to the company of other dragons. Here the trees didn't judge her, the bushes didn't whisper when she drew near, the birds didn't quieten in her wake. Amongst the green she was free and a pang of remembrance for her birthplace echoed in her heart, a feeling of fondness. Marena's care for the forest extends also to the people who tend to it, nurturing and healing even the deepest reaches of its growth - of course, that's something she'd never admit.
