Squirrel Skull

Scouting has always been my profession. I've learned the ins and outs of finding dragons and animals that don't want to be found. But I've never found a dragon to just vanish. Most dragons had a reason; runinng away from their parents, escaping an abusive relationship, accidentally leaving with another clan... but never just vanishing. It was very probable Arcke could've gotten lost while he was searching for rocks, but his clients insisted that that wasn't the case: 'Arcke doesn't get lost. He wanders, but he doesn't get lost.' I had suggested a cave collapse, which they replied with asking if they'd be able to find said potential collapse, which of course I said yes to.

That was that. Now I've found myself in a predicament. This was my third day on the mountain that Arcke was last sighted on, and I found no sign of other than a few misplaced rocks here and there. Arcke had been here... but now he was just gone.

I considered changing my technique a little. I didn't normally use my abilities for things like this, but... I shook my head. I was gifted for a reason, and I might as well put it to good use. Besides, this dragon could be endangered beneath a rock collapse without food or drink...I sighed and finally closed my eyes. I held up the rock that Umrtia had given me, one of the last posessions that Arcke had held. Like a sunrise, and image appeared in the darkness behind my eyelids. A ribbon, a deep blood red of color, unfurled in front of me. With my eyes closed, I followed it.

I'd had this ability since I was born. I could see the paths taken by lost ones, depicted by the mysterious red ribbon behind my closed eyes. I don't know why I was given this gift, I certainly didn't deserve it, but it helped me recover treasured lost items and missing dragons. Though now, as I followed it down into a mountain cave, my ability didn't live up to its consistent accuracy.

The ribbon stopped. As if someone took scissors to it, the ribbon just ended. I opened my eyes to find a cave collapse. This wasn't right. Even if the male had died, the ribbon should've ended at the body, not... no. Something was very wrong.
