STORY

Stoic, silent Finn is the most logical member of Zack’s gang of thieves. He prefers lurking in silence over shouting for attention, which makes him the target of many rumors amongst the group. Some say he doesn’t speak much because his voice is full of frostbite (which would explain his nickname, at least). Others whisper that he’s a shade who never eats or sleeps. The truth? Frosty’s just grumpy. He has fairly pessimistic opinions about the world. He’s often the dragon who will point out the flaws in a heist plan everyone’s excited about, or will grumble about how everyone’s going to get caught. He’s highly suspicious of all new members, giving them his infamous staredown whenever they try to speak to him for the first time. Many dragons are afraid of him. Finn, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything. Perhaps his frigid nature has led him to believe that he’s the scariest thing out there. Or perhaps his inability to showcase his emotions makes it appear as if he isn’t frightened. Either way, the leader of the pack always looks to Frostbite for courage. The icy Spiral simply sets his jaw and moves through whatever obstacle is before him.

Finn’s frozen heart thaws for no one, save for Amias, lovingly nicknamed Pastel. The two get into all kinds of shenanigans together, despite the former being constantly annoyed by the latter. Amias’ flouncy, superfluous personality is often a bit much for Frostbite. He prefers soft silence to the loud, unhinged cries of his partner in crime. Still, they manage to get along just fine. Pastel teaches Finn how to have fun, and Finn shows Pastel how to occasionally exhibit some restraint. They balance each other out very well and are thick as, well, thieves. Whenever they’re paired together for a job, everything goes swimmingly. Well, everything… goes. The job happens. Never mind if it involves several explosions (courtesy of Amias) and the sound of Finn yelling his head off because Amias can’t be careful for once in his stupid pink little life. They are good friends indeed. Deep down, Frosty knows that he would take a dagger in the back for Pastel any day. There is loyalty amongst thieves and it is epitomized in the relationship these two have with one another.

When it comes to expressing emotions, Finn struggles immensely. He’s a tad frightened of his own feelings, which leads to a cement-like exterior and difficulty saying what he truly feels. He’s secretly envious of his more overt, easygoing clanmates. If only he knew how to loudly proclaim his feelings the same way Pastel does. It would lead to far fewer misunderstandings, and far fewer hatchlings flinching when he enters a room. He’s not heartless. He just doesn’t know how to say what he means, or mean what he says. There’s nothing wrong with his robotic nature. He still tries to connect. It’s actually a little funny when he tries to make small talk. Apparently, “Have you ever been stabbed?” doesn’t really cut it when it comes to casual niceties. Deep within Frostbite’s frozen heart is a dragon who longs to form stronger bonds with his clan and charm everyone he meets, the way Zack does. He’s been practicing his smile for an extra glimmer of charisma, but he only ends up scaring himself in the mirror. This makes him cranky and pessimistic all over again. Ah, well. Some dragons just aren’t meant to be charming. At least Finn has his sharp wits and his killer sarcasm.

With his dour outlook on life, Finn has a tendency to bring the mood down around him. Amias calls him a ‘bubble burster.’ Frosty simply shrugs and explains that he’s telling it how it is. Honesty is better than a cheerful lie. Finn doesn’t want to delude himself into thinking things are better than they are. A life on the streets can crush optimism fairly quickly. Finn is unsure when he stopped having faith in his fellow dragons. It was likely when he was very young, since he’s been in the den of thieves for a long time. He doesn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him. Instead, he encourages his kin to think realistically and rationally about every problem. Without his razor-sharp insights, Zack’s entourage would have gotten themselves into some very sticky situations. Finn’s pessimism allows him to predict problems before they occur. Every heist, plan, or plot must be Frosty-checked before it goes into action. Aspiring leaders tremble in fear before Finn tears holes in their best-laid plans. Without his criticisms, they’d never learn. He only wants to help– and it’s not his fault if they can’t handle the simple truth. Finn’s bluntness can be as much of an asset as it is a hindrance. His clanmates will come to see this eventually. Until then, he has Pastel to tell him how wonderful he is.
