Growing up in the Windswept Plateau, Lashtail was frequently mocked by his siblings for being the smallest hatchling. They have always been a bit of a romantic, but living in a Mirror family, he was too nervous to express their feelings around their siblings. After he grows up, he leaves his parents and their clan due to their continued discomfort caused by his siblings. Elif's and Ashbringer's Clans often meet up to hunt together, and the potential to find a new home and a new life was too much for the adolescent to pass up. Over time, they form a deep connection with Ashbringer's oldest daughter, Berrybur, and decides to pursue her as his mate.

Years later, he is now second in command for the clan's protectors - a guild of dragon warriors dedicated to caring for and guarding the other members of the clan.
