 NightShade Sometimes, prejudices can be minor annoyances at worst… but sometimes, they can be lethal. One such common prejudice across Sornieth is that held against mirror dragons. Of course, at first glance, being intimidated if not terrified seems reasonable, but against the innately ‘savage’ species, many other dragons bear hatred. It’s a widely accepted stereotype that mirror dragons are brutes. Savages. This holds true for some of them… but certainly not all. |

How is this information relevant? Well, years ago, on the Windswept Plateau lived an exclusively-pearlcatcher clan. They seemed to fit their own stereotype, snobbish and judgemental. They were appalled when they found their territory neighboring a ‘mixed’ clan of dragons from every corner of Sornieth. They criticized their border mates for not upholding purity or prestige, as they so believed all dragons should. This caused tension between the two clans. Scuffles and ambushes were not uncommon between them. All the bottled-up rivalry finally boiled over when the leader of the pearlcatchers found out that their neighbors had taken in a young rogue mirror. They had trained him, fed him, loved and cared for him in secret for a while… knowing that their territorial rivals would implode from the ‘indecency’ of it. The leader of the pearlcatcher dragons met with the leader of their diverse neighboring clan and claimed he felt threatened by the mirror’s presence. “I know that savage dog is going to turn on you. Then it will come for us!” He tossed his mane in indignation. “Either rid yourselves of it at once and we will continue living in peace, or you will face war for this territory once and for all.” |

“I will not ‘rid’ myself of my son,” the guardian who raised him brought the pup up into her talons. She nuzzled him playfully. He wasn’t a baby anymore, but an adolescent. “He is a very kind and very intelligent hatchling. I am prepared to fight for him.” Just like that, as if all dragons had been waiting with bated breath, a fierce battle broke out. NightShade, the mirror pup in question, was too small to fight and expect to win. So his adoptive mother ordered him to run. And with shame in his heart, he did so. NightShade ran. And he ran. And he never stopped running. For years, he would spend his days hunting and avoiding any dragon that got too close. Until the loneliness began to creep in on him, especially when he laid down to sleep at night. He remembered the warmth and happiness of his home clan, and it was only a short time before he wanted to try again. He wanted a family again. Then he met a guardian dragon named GentleBreeze. He was reminded of the family he’d lost so long ago. And there was an instant connection. Both of them were kind to one another. He felt he could tease and laugh with her. He agreed to help her start a clan. Soon after, he found himself in love with her, and they agreed to become mates. NightShade has never been happier. He’s finally forgiven himself for running all those years ago, now ready to defend his family tooth and nail if it comes to that. GentleBreeze: Mate
| GentleBreeze is his lovely mate. He's always following her around and helping her in any way he can. She a very doting mate and will always ask his opinion on decisions that she sometimes feels indecisive on. He and GentleBreeze can be seen in the early hours of the morning greeting their clanmates as they got ready for a busy day, or resting under a shady area enjoying the gentle breeze that blew through their territory. Sometimes you can see them flying on free days, laughing and living a carefree life. |
| Tantras is NightShades best friend. thought it may not look like it but Tantras enjoys having NightShade around. They usually converse on their breaks or when they're not on duty. It's NightShade that usually does the talking while Tantras listens. Where NightShade is a loud supporter, Tantras is a more silent support type. Just standing next to the dragon that he supports speaks louder than any words. |
