___
.
. A U R U S
___
______He had never known his mother, not really. He had run away at a young age, thirsting for more than just a quiet life in a clan. Never to see his siblings again, never to see his mother again. But he didn't care, no. He was never meant to have a family, they would only slow him down. Bothersome brothers and sisters clinging to eachother and wrestling under her watchful guidance. He shook his head. No, he wasnt meant for that life. Young and reckless, he followed the unreliable voice in his soul. He was meant for something so much greater. He just knew it.
______For years henceforth he spent in the wastelands, scavenging and doing his best to survive. His instincts led him through for the most part, able to scare away most possible predators with a spread of his wings and a hiss. Even more so when he began to use the bones he found as decorations for himself.
-
______He could practically taste the flesh. What stood in front of him was the only thing between him and his next meal. The angry creature screeched at him and puffed itself up, making it look bigger than the wildclaw. Failing, of course, but a show of intimidation nontheless. In return, he spread his wings and let out a louder noise. The creature sprung forward, claws at the ready. He tried to dodge but got scratched anyway, now bleeding from his shoulder. The thing turned to attack again, but now as it was behind him, the wildclaw swung his tail around and successfully hit the creature, sending it flying. It skittered to it's feet, sizing the dragon up, then apparently decided that it did not wish to risk it's life for lunch today. It ran away, leaving him alone with the corpse. A grin of sharp teeth spread out on the wildclaw's face. He would eat today.
-
______His luck would begin to run out once he came across a particularly bad-tempered viper. The fight was over in an instant, Aurus's claws dirtied by what was left. They would be that night's dinner. Then he felt it, a stinging, burning sensation starting in his chest and spreading throughout his limbs at an alarming rate. His legs buckled and he fell to his knees. His eyes opened, but he couldn't see. He must have been bitten during the fight, adrenaline overtaking his body so that he hadn't noticed until after. Nothing but fear filled his mind. He cried out, yearning for relief, but all he could feel was pain. In the back of his mind, he saw his home nest. His brothers and sisters, curled up around eachother. A family he had never known and never will know. Tears fell down his cheeks.
______For what seemed like hours Aurus laid in the dust, before finally the pain subsided. His vision returned, blurry but there, and he felt his strength return to his limbs. Tears still falling, Aurus slowly got to his feet. His breath was erratic but he could feel everything. the air burned his throat and his veins felt like acid, but he could breathe. Whatever had become of the venom within him was no longer an issue, his immune system, boosted from the years of survival, had won. Aurus felt terrible, but unstoppable.
-
______He stood over the other dragon, blood dripping from his claws. The skydancer laid in the dirt as he struggled to stay conscious. He trembled and weakly gazed up at his attacker, fear in his faded eyes. Aurus snarled, looking away from the other. There was no hope in that dragon's body. Not anymore. He forced himself to step back. To kill the dragon wasn't his goal, he just needed to get to the food he held. With the other incompacitated, he took his chance to grab the dragon's food pouch and run. He tried not to think of the half-dead dragon he left on the ground. How his claws were stained by the blood of the other. He barely even had the chance to take in his appearance. Just smelled the food and let his survival instinct take over. He shook his head. No, he couldn't let compassion get the better of him here. This was no place for such a thing.

______He had only ever known the scalding heat of the wastelands. The sun burning his skin and his feathers. He was by no means prepared for the migration. He continued still, trudging through knee-deep snow. He kept his feathers packed tight together, wings wrapping around him in an attempt to remain warm. Keep in the heat. At least he had the extra feathers naturally, else he would have frozen already in this unforgiving glacier. By choosing to move to the ice region, Aurus tested his physical limits. After a while of wandering, he finally settled himself into a clan that managed to catch his attention. Their soldiers and warriors were great in number, and the head of defense held a powerful aura to her. And of course, they were always accepting new members.
______His otherwise relaxing life in his new home was interrupted when, one night, Aurus heard a yell and was tackled to the ground. Looking up, he felt a chill go down his spine when he realized who had attacked him. Duzarca...
______"What are you doing?” He asked the other, a fellow plague-eyed dragon. Duzarca sneered in response.
______"It was you. It was you all along.”
______Before Aurus could ask him what he meant, Duzarca drew his blade and went for the kill.
______It wasn’t that long of a battle considering that the commotion had woken up a few villagers, who then rushed to the elders to report it. Captiosus was the one to break the two up, throwing Duzarca aside with surprising strength.
______"Enough!”
______His booming voice could be heard even from within The Greenglobe, Hemlock and Vesper stirring from their slumber. Neither Aurus nor Duzarca moved a muscle, terrified for what the elder might do.
______'There will be no more in-fighting, do you hear me? If you disobey, I can just as easily cast you out into the cold as I did bring you in.”
______The silence was deafening, the night air thick enough to cut with the bloodied blade Duzarca still held. Hank ran forward, looking to comfort his boyfriend. Aurus paid no mind, ears ringing as he focused on the pain instead. He couldn’t tell off the top of his head what was hurt, but he knew that the skydancer had done a number on him. It got harder to keep his eyes open. He let them close.
______Waking up in his bed somehow, Aurus spent the next morning dressing his wounds and figuring out what exactly Duzarca had done to him. He grumbled to himself the whole time, wincing from the pain. There was an immediate issue. His leg had a very deep gash in it, making it hard for him to move it. Any weight on it was a terrible idea. Aurus clenched his teeth. This was... very much a problem. Especially considering his role on the battlefield. He would definitely need to consult Amara.
______The whispers were unbearable. The side-eyes and hidden gestures. The townsfolk knew now, knew of his past. Of how he had attacked another dragon without a second thought. Of his ruthless survival instinct. Aurus couldn't handle it. He had thought about the dragon, Duzarca, after the attack. Had wondered if he was alright. Hoping he hadn't killed him. Well, he knew now. Sure didn't kill him. But now he paid for it. The townsfolk looked at him different now. They were afraid, wary, untrusting. He wasn't exactly looking to make friends, but to be infamous in his own clan? He hated it. At least he still had the coli team. They still trusted him. Still respected him. That was something, at least.
-
______With Aurus’ injured leg, he was no longer able to perform at his best in battle. Though it was a very tough decision, Amara officially dismissed him from the active team. Aurus hated this decision but he knew he had no other choice. But this wasn’t the end of his career. Though Aurus’ time on the battlefield was over, he still remained useful by volunteering to help patch up the fighters. Perhaps one day he would be able to return to the fight, but for now, he spent his time preparing others for battle.
