Maven | ♫

- part of an operation to investigate the mysterious rifts that have opened up in the world

- their job is to direct and monitor the people who go in from a command station safely outside of the portal

- doing their best

- so nervous all of the time

- mentored by Odyssey and looks up to em so much (to the point of perhaps relying on es guidance too much)

- sense of confidence has been completely shot by the disaster that led to Opportunity’s disappearance and presumed death; they were in charge of that mission. It was supposed to be straightforward for one of their first missions they’d be commanding without much input from Odyssey, but when the storm hit they didn’t know how to manage the situation. They are quite sure that what happened is entirely their fault

- too worried to have a personality when dealing with missions, they fixate entirely on the job and fret over it 24/7 until everyone makes it through safely to the other side

- when they can relax, Maven enjoys working on some embroidery, playing niche board & card games, and is into science fiction and mystery stories

- their cousin Perse bullies them relentlessly for being a nerd despite her being the one who literally wrote a whole essay on gene oscillations in circadian cycles for a biology class >:(

- sticks a bunch of patches all over their uniform which is almost definitely against code but nobody has told them to stop

Relations

Perseverance | younger cousin
- didn’t grow up very close, having been born in different regions
- families moved closer again when they were older and they met more as friends than relatives
- Maven babysat fairly often and helped out with schoolwork, leading to Perse taking an interest in Maven’s aspirations and making them her own
- she’s a grown woman and can look after herself, but Maven is worried about her being on the team. They don’t want to get her killed
- and then she pulls some sh*t to make them reconsider all the effort they’re putting into worrying


Odyssey | mentor
- so so so much respect
- Maven lives by es every word
- wears the jacket e gave them almost constantly, they’re reverent of the thing
- there was a scary period where Odyssey secluded emself after Tune went missing, and Maven was certain they’d ruined their bond by killing the person closest to their mentor
- they still feel very guilty, but Odyssey has since opened up more again and tried to assure them that they bear no blame for the loss
- they don’t totally believe it but they’re glad to still be on friendly terms with their mentor


Curiosity | respected teammate
- has had several years to work with her
- respects her a lot and also thinks she’s cool, but when it comes down to it they’re always gonna take Odyssey’s side in any potential conflict, no matter how minor & petty


Phoenix | honorary uncle
- family friend, he visited every now and then in Mavens youth, and more as they got a bit older
- the two get on well, and they are glad to have him as a role model
- even if he is rather silly


Opportunity | failed hero
- someone they looked up to and admired greatly
- they absolutely blame themself for what happened
- they thought they were ready, but clearly they weren’t


Spirit | ??
- spent as much time working together as they did w Tune
- did get along with nym and still respects nym a lot but now doesn’t know how to interact after letting Tune die
- tries to keep things professional and strictly focused on work and they have no idea how to talk to nym outside of that context
- ne has grown distant anyway, so Maven doesn’t push anything
- only strays from their workplace script to apologize profusely over any minor thing
