Pearlcatchers are natives of the ruins, and though most of them serve the Lightweaver, some find themselves with other opinions concerning their heritage.

Seirios' parents were of two different species, Imperial and Pearlcatcher, in defiance of the ways of their peoples. They raised their son and the rest of his clutch badly (being too young to have become parents at the time), but with the understanding that the world was a big and complicated place, and that no self-respecting seeker of wisdom should let himself be blinded by fear or arrogance about it.
He has put their scientific education to good use, and as an adult himself, he joined a fledgling clan of ragtag foreigners, the better to learn about the world.

A friend and medical collaborator mothered a clutch with him, though two of their offspring died young. In principle, he seems more devoted to discovery and record than to genetic continuity, but he's not an unkind creche-parent to the young of the clan, and he's been devoted to their educations for as long as he has existed here.
His particular favourite students have been his own daughter Ursula, and the clan-daughters Bizila and Ninlil.
