To say Zielen is a strange character would be an understatement. He is widely regarded as the life of the Core. Everywhere he goes, he brings a certain luminosity with him. His reckless cheer is infectious, and he has roped many a dragon into his hare-brained schemes. However, many of the dragons in the Steppes question Zielen's place in the Core. While he is well loved and highly regarded, he doesn't seem to...do anything. Many young dragons pass their time speculating upon any of the fantastical tasks they imagine he might perform; it's a hotly debated topic.

The most common theory is that he controls the weather in the Steppes. Spitfyre once tried to test this theory by angering Zielen to see if he would cause a thunderstorm, but after three months of attempts, and after Zielen greeted her cheerily after she had stuck a dozen kamaitachis under his bed, she gave up. (They never found out what happened to the kamaitachis.)

There are rumors floating around that he is able to teleport, born from his ability to appear and disappear from rooms in the blink of an eye. When asked about his supposed power, Zielen declined to comment.
