Biography

Ptarmigan

Why do windies even know ptarmigans.

Perfectly camouflaged among winter woods, light snow dusted over rocky ground, or piles of leftover slush after a heavy fall. ...Look, it's not like he has natural predators to hide from, he got tired of being ignored and bumped into, okay?

Lots of snowbirds migrate, so really he just started early... and skydancers were originally windsculpted, so going there is just, like, the ultimate, ancestral sort of migratory endpoint, right? Even if he did have to migrate by joining longneck hunters because he hasn't quite learned all his orientation or to fly long distances yet... (Can windsculpted chicks manage that already? What if he's behind compared to them... no, it's fine, surely. Icicle means tough!)

Crossed the drifting sea past the floe edge with great caution and difficulty given the unprecedented change in wind directions in recent history, but finally reached the windward shore barely known to Icefield longneck memoryscape anymore. The longnecks continued to seek their distant kin separated by the Long Melting and inquire about the wind change and Tarn... well, obviously... see, he...

There was a cat, okay? This big spiny grasscat and it was super fast and cool and... Tarn is, uh, working on the animal behavior aspect of his wayfinding... through personal study. Up close. (Whenever he can catch it.)

The cat nests on a rocky point atop a cliff along the coastline, beside a generator that feeds the lair built from a spire one bridge away. Raffles the Boss whose crest is painted like royalty took Tarn right in with the rest of the lair hatchlings and said he's head of his clutch (not an actual clutch, just a grouping of hatchlings that have the same schedule) so lead them well. Tarn does. His new friends are all up for chasing the cat with him and they all come back more experienced every time they do it.

(Some adults refer in complaining tones to getting lost. None of them explain what that means. There is no lost, there's either knowing or learning where you are. There's barely ever even any heavy fog without a wind to give direction around here!)

The best cushion in the creche is his.

(Someone might try to say something about meant for something else and take it away sometimes, but he always hides it away or sneaks it back. First dibs lasts forever!)

Kordu

(unspecified language of origin, meaning "Edqequeen," "Prowl," "SassAttack Dropcat," "Pitch," "Bright Eyes," and "no one could agree what to call it.")

Does not respond to Kordu, Cordy, Kitty, or "oh no look I am small and helpless," only (sometimes) to loud distressed meeps.

The ultimate Chase the Cat lure. The game will continue until she gets hungry.

(You would think babies with wings on would think to look up at ambush spots, but no, no they have not.

Yet.)
