Biography

–Cherry Tree–

In the gardens of Ariel’s Castle, near where Cedar sprouted, is an ancient cherry tree. It flowers every year in spring, its branches filling with delicate pink flowers. Flowers whose petals fall like snow, and blow across the garden, carpeting everything in pink. Then the flowers fade, disappearing for another year.

The tree was ancient when Cedar first sprouted. The tree was ancient when the trees neighbouring them sprouted. Cedar has reached their roots out to communicate with most all plants in the garden. Not a single one remembers the cherry tree as anything other than ancient.

Cedar will reach out their roots to speaks with the ancient cherry tree too, sometimes. They speak about the changing seasons, the soil and the rain. The ancient cherry tree knows almost all there is to know about the garden. The tree knows how long each plant has been there, and how they change with the seasons. It knows the conditions in which they thrive; information the gardener Angel is always seeking. Cedar has often been an intermediary between the cherry tree and Angel.

It’s difficult to translate the thoughts of plants into something a dragon can understand; their ways of thinking are so different. More often than not, Cedar’s attempts will leave Angel baffled. But not so with the ancient cherry tree. Their thoughts, Cedar can translate easily.

The cherry tree is not a dragon. Not like Cedar is. It cannot lift up its roots, and walk around like a dragon. It has no mouth to speak like a dragon. But sometimes, its thoughts are uncannily like those of a dragon. And sometimes, when speaking with the ancient cherry tree, Cedar catches hints of memories; memories of soil under claws, and wind under wings; memories of the taste of meat, and of leaves caught between teeth.

The cherry tree is not a dragon, not like Cedar is. But, Cedar thinks it once might have been.
