Cirrus

An endangered subspecies of the Light flight, the Nut Usabti had almost gone forgotten about entirely. Known for plumbing and guarding the deepest tombs and caverns for lost secrets and knowledge, they became as obscure as some of their secret knowledge (established nut usabti lore by someone else).

At some point lost to history, an entire research community full of the little fae had left their home territory for a project in the Icewarden's domain. By all appearances they simply vanished, forgotten the last of their eggs following a story similar to every other unhatched egg found outside its nest.

Forgotten until, one by one, these four, unrelated hatchlings broke out of their shells. Not all in the same place, no. Asperitas was the last of the four, the youngest, but also the only one hatched in the darkness of a nest gone cold for years. She hatched among all that'd been unearthed by their ancestors and predecessors, the roiling magic of secrets etched in every scale, and flowing through her veins.

Eventually, through her, one by one, each of the other icy nut ushabti descendants began to hear the faint song of their ancestors, the work left undone, the youngest ancient longing for connection. That is how each of the other three found their way back to their beginnings, recovering the work of their ancestors and their grand purpose.

However, unlike their vanished parents and ancestors, they packed up what remained of the expedition and set out for their ancestral homeland (Light flight territory), a little found family in their own right.

While Asperitas may be the youngest, she feels ancient and timeless. Enough so the others often forget she isn't far older than all of them put together. She is blind and can barely (painfully) tolerate full sun for shorts amount of time. She prefers the twilight hours and deepest night, preferring to sleep through the day. She knows things she shouldn't and has memories of other times and dragons past.

Cirro was the first of the connected four to arrive, the two forging a fierce and loving bond that transcends their current forms. Much the same way, Cirrus and Castellatus met on their answering journey and became fast companions. Though they share a similar name, Cirro and Cirrus are not related to each other any more than they are the other two, but of the four, they bonded like twins hatched from the same egg.

One thing's for certain, whatever happened in those icy depths with their ancestors, it has touched each of them in ways yet to be discovered or fully understood. Whatever secrets lie in their past, the four will uncover and explore them together.

Cirrus is technically the eldest and the one most connected to the Light. In fact, until Asperitas hatched, Cirrus had been pulled by the song of her ancestral homeland and had nearly left the ice warden's doman that very same year. Zie had been on a slow journey out, in fact, when Asperitas hatched and pulled zir back from crossing a single border, and instead deeper into the icewarden's doman. Zie might have ignored Asperitas' call entirely before delving so deeply into the ice caverns if not for meeting the curious, bookish, and scientifically-minded Castellatus along the way. They fed each others' curiosity and bravery in turns.

What happened next was both horrifying and cathartic as the impossible year was taken down by a flying pig who ripped it to shreds, tossed it around a bit, and left it as fertilizer from which to grow a better future.

Tangentially related, I also have an OC named Ciruu who is either Icelandic, of Nordic ancestry, or heavily influenced by it depending on the AU she's written. Cirrus is not Ciruu, but I could not resist similar name resulting in a Norse mythology boar companion for Cirrus. Freyja did not seem like a good fit for this particular dragon though. I may end up changing the boar's name as a result. Or perhaps Freyja's boar is just moonlighting with this little fae?

Referenced mythology: "Nut (Ancient Egyptian: Nwt), also known by various other transcriptions, is the goddess of the sky, stars, cosmos, mothers, astronomy, and the universe in the ancient Egyptian religion. She was seen as a star-covered nude woman arching over the Earth,[2] or as a cow. She was depicted wearing the water-pot sign (nw) that identifies her. Also sometimes appears in older sources as Nunut, Nent, and Nuit.

She was originally the goddess of the nighttime sky, but eventually became referred to as simply the sky goddess. Her headdress was the hieroglyphic of part of her name, a pot, which may also symbolize the uterus. Mostly depicted in nude human form, Nut was also sometimes depicted in the form of a cow whose great body formed the sky and heavens, a sycamore tree, or as a giant sow, suckling many piglets (representing the stars).

Ra, the sun god, was the second to rule the world, according to the reign of the gods. He decreed, "Nut shall not give birth any day of the year." At that time, the year was only 360 days. Nut spoke to Thoth, god of wisdom, and he had a plan. Nut gambled with Khonsu, god of the Moon, whose light rivaled that of Ra's. Every time Khonsu lost, he had to give Nut some of his moonlight. Khonsu lost so many times that Nut had enough moonlight to make five extra days. Since these days were not part of the year, Nut could have her children.[8][9] She had five children: Osiris, later ruler of the gods and then god of the dead; Horus the Elder, god of war; Set, god of evil and the desert; Isis, goddess of magic; and Nephthys, goddess of water. When Ra found out, he was furious. He separated Nut from her husband Geb for eternity. Her father, Shu, was given the job to keep them apart. Nevertheless, Nut did not regret her decision.[citation needed]

Coverer of the Sky: Nut was said to be covered in stars touching the different points of her body.
She Who Protects: Among her jobs was to envelop and protect Ra, the sun god.[6]
Mistress of All or "She who Bore the Gods": Originally, Nut was said to be lying on top of Geb (Earth) and continually having intercourse. During this time she birthed four children: Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys.[10] A fifth child named Arueris is mentioned by Plutarch.[11] He was the Egyptian counterpart to the Greek god Apollo, who was made syncretic with Horus in the Hellenistic era as 'Horus the Elder'.[12] The Ptolemaic temple of Edfu is dedicated to Horus the Elder and there he is called the son of Nut and Geb, brother of Osiris, and the eldest son of Geb.[13]
She Who Holds a Thousand Souls: Because of her role in the re-birthing of Ra every morning and in her son Osiris' resurrection, Nut became a key god in many of the myths about the afterlife.[6]

Nut was the goddess of the sky and all heavenly bodies, a symbol of protecting the dead when they enter the afterlife. According to the Egyptians, during the day, the heavenly bodies—such as the Sun and Moon—would make their way across her body. Then, at dusk, they would be swallowed, pass through her belly during the night, and be reborn at dawn.[14]

Nut is also the barrier separating the forces of chaos from the ordered cosmos in the world. She was pictured as a woman arched on her toes and fingertips over the Earth; her body portrayed as a star-filled sky. Nut's fingers and toes were believed to touch the four cardinal points or directions of north, south, east, and west.

Because of her role in saving Osiris, Nut was seen as a friend and protector of the dead, who appealed to her as a child appeals to its mother: "O my Mother Nut, stretch Yourself over me, that I may be placed among the imperishable stars which are in You, and that I may not die." Nut was thought to draw the dead into her star-filled sky, and refresh them with food and wine: "I am Nut, and I have come so that I may enfold and protect you from all things evil."[15]

She was often painted on the inside lid of the sarcophagus, protecting the deceased. The vaults of tombs were often painted dark blue with many stars as a representation of Nut. The Book of the Dead says, "Hail, thou Sycamore Tree of the Goddess Nut! Give me of the water and of the air which is in thee. I embrace that throne which is in Unu, and I keep guard over the Egg of Nekek-ur. It flourisheth, and I flourish; it liveth, and I live; it snuffeth the air, and I snuff the air, I the Osiris Ani, whose word is truth, in peace.''"
