Starting from a very young age, Isabella was a part of the duchess’ court. Her parents were farmers at the verge of the sphere of Katalin’s influence, and struggled day to day in a never ending spiral of poverty. Their escape from the vicious cycle they found when the duchess sent her knights to the villages, searching for young girls and women to join her court. Isabella was sold into the life as a servant, feeling lost and betrayed by those she called family. While by now, she has found it in her heart to forgive her parents, seeing as they saved her from the same spiral they are caught in, Isabella’s younger years were marked with loneliness and despair. Silently, she fulfilled her master’s wishes, serving her without devotion or loyalty. Other members of the court thought her mute, judging by how little she spoke. Katalin did not take much notice of her during those years, seeing her as just one of many maids. But as Isabella grew older, that changed. Since she had been with the duchess from a young age, Isabella became an overseer of the new young maids that joined the duchess’ services. With the additional responsibility, she grew more disciplined, more self-confident. Still calm and reserved, Isabella taught the new servants all the routines and cues they had to know. Her new role also resulted in her being in Katalin’s company more often, and the duchess took positive note of the maid that could become invisible at a wave of the claw. Over time, Isabella became her favorite servant. Isabella’s beauty bloomed when she reached the age of adulthood. It was then that the duchess called her to her chambers in the evening. They spent one night together before the duchess decided Isabella was of more worth to her as sustenance for her vampiric nature. Isabella does approve of this arrangement, for her heart belongs to Archibald, the jester. Every other night, she risks the wrath of the duchess to see him and spend some precious hours together. Sometimes, she plays with the thought of asking Katalin for her blessing, but then fear grasps her heart. Gordon, the castle’s chef and Isabella’s dearest friend, is the only one she dared to inform about the relationship. Various times, it was his support and quick tongue that let her and Archibald go undiscovered.
