Fugitive File
File Regarding: Malice Ichor "Asphodel"
[Note attached to the top of the file:
I have been examining my predecessor’s records and compiling all information that I believe to still be relevant at this time. There is very little on this subject in particular; it seems that Asphodel was not a priority in my predecessor's mind. Likely, this is one reason he met the fate he did. I intend to do better. Tactician Enheduanna] Name: Asphodel Gender: Male Rank: Malice Ichor — Polymath Status: Active Physical Description Obsidian coat, bright red weathered patterns at the ends of his limbs and tail. Blood-like markings on his horns. Bright red mane and wings. Uncommon eyes. Report Asphodel is an elusive dragon who has proven frighteningly capable of flying under the radar. When the first reports came in of a dragon matching his description, the facts were difficult to pin down. Ultimately, the only thing every report agreed upon was this: his magic resembles that of the Malice Ichor “Hemlock”, but able to impact more than one mind at a time. For obvious reasons, this was cause for concern when we knew very little. As more information has come to light, we have learned that Asphodel’s magic is not nearly as powerful as Hemlock’s, and not nearly as dangerous. In addition, Asphodel does not appear to target C-Is over other dragons; in fact, he appears not to have any patterns at all to the targets he chooses. This, of course, makes him more difficult to track. He has been spotted several times now in the presence of two other Malice Ichors, the ones known as “Hemlock” and “Valerian”. If Asphodel continues to prove as elusive as he has thus far, capturing either of his known associates may help guide us to his location. Advised Action Capture alive. He has knowledge of other Malice Ichor locations and may have insight to offer on Hemlock’s illusions, if these two magics are as similar as they appear on the surface.

About
Asphodel is a young Malice-Ichor with a bold style. Raised by Hemlock, an illusionist who taught him to enjoy picking on the Carnage-Ichor order, Asphodel has grown up absolutely delighting in the discord he can sow simply by changing a few tiny pieces of another dragon's perception. He is excellent at reading others, and can frequently pick out just the thing that would bother them most to hear. Then, he makes them think their companion said it. Asphodel has started a number of violent confrontations this way, and it never gets old. His strategy works particularly well against the Carnage-Ichors and other similarly aggressive dragons. He doesn't narrow his potential targets only to the Carnage-Ichor order; his parents have that well under control. Instead, Asphodel busies himself with starting tiny fights all across the Scarred Wasteland, drawing power from many arguments all across the region rather than targeting an individual clan. A part of him wants to make Hemlock and Valerian proud, but he has long since learned that they aren't the supportive, hovering sort of parents; still, he keeps an eye out for anything they would enjoy, just to get a tiny bit of their favor. |

Variant
Malice-Ichor Polymath
Malice-Ichors are chaotic dragons who bring discord everywhere they go; they feed off of negativity, and thus cause it wherever and whenever they can. They are known for being liars, and depicted in stories and art as manipulators, whispering into their victims' ears. Asphodel, with his strong desire for close bonds with others and his reluctance to cause harm to those who don't deserve it, is not quite the classic Malice-Ichor -- but he won't hesitate to use his power to his advantage when he must, or when he feels driven to it. Some may call his choice to only cause smaller-scale arguments instead of ruinous wars "soft," but Asphodel just calls it "efficient." Those who have been on the receiving end of his illusions would never imagine that he holds back; he simply chooses his targets carefully. |

Loyalties
Asphodel has few ties, but they are all very strong ones. He was raised by Hemlock and Valerian, who taught him everything he knows; he has them to thank for both his ability to read other dragons and the illusions that he uses to pick at the insecurities he finds. He thinks of himself, Hemlock, and Valerian as a family -- and for a while he was perfectly willing to accept that his parents wouldn't feel the same, but with time he has seen small, notable changes that show that perhaps it just took them longer to see him as a son than expected. Asphodel's strongest loyalty will always be to his family: blood or otherwise. He has found himself in contact with Shiva's network because his brothers -- blood siblings who he had been separated from as a hatchling -- found themselves adopted by the network's leadership. While Asphodel's own adoptive parents have been firm in their determination not to get closely involved with the network, they never tell Asphodel what to do -- and while he has chosen to remain largely unattached so far, he cares very much for his brothers, and should they need him he will help them. Outside of family ties, Asphodel has very few contacts to rely on. He works on a small scale and tends to lie low, enough that even the Carnage-Ichors only know he exists because he ran into them before he was taught to properly disguise himself. He has not made enough of a name for himself to attract more attention, from enemies or from allies. |

Incident Report
Report Regarding: A strange... encounter. After a routine patrol, several of the C-Is reporting in gave drastically different descriptions of what, exactly, they had encountered. Several were angry, others were merely confused, and every reporting C-I blamed a different source of conflict. From their stories, I have gathered that they most likely had an encountered with a Malice-Ichor, and one that showed them powerful illusions. This Mal-Ichor showed each member of the patrol a different image, and caused them to fight among themselves. A few anonymous excerpts from these reports follow: 1: "At first I thought something had flown overhead, so I looked up; then, when I looked back at my patrol, everyone was glaring at me. I had no idea what for -- I hadn't said anything, hadn't even pointed it out, but I seemed to have drawn their ire anyway. And I couldn't just stand for that! So I asked them what they were looking at, and suddenly they started acting like I'd just insulted the Plaguebringer herself! One of them started swinging at me, so obviously I fought back." 2: "Oh, don't believe a word that idiot says. He's just tryin' to cover for himself after he attacked us. He started boastin' about himself, how he's expectin' a promotion sometime soon, and when we rightly told him to shut up about how much better he thinks he is, he went all I'll prove it and just went for me. It was weird, though, cause when I though he'd hit me I didn't feel a thing, and when I started tryin' to defend myself somethin' felt... off. The whole patrol got involved in the fight, and we had to come back on account of the infightin'. I bet there was somethin' out there that found the whole thing real funny, cause I kept hearing laughter." 3: "I've experienced illusions before, and if I had to make a guess that's what I'd say happened: one moment everything was as-planned, and the next my subordinates were picking fights. I can recognize a trap when I see one, and this was it; I got us back to base as quickly as I could. I don't go into messes like this unprepared, and you can never underestimate illusions. I had half a squad picked up by that nuisance, you know the one: Hemlock? I was not about to let that happen to another." The leader of the patrol had a strong hunch that this was the work of Hemlock, but I am inclined to doubt. Hemlock is a powerful illusionist, and (as referenced) he has been a dangerous subject to encounter, but his magic is well-reported to only be able to impact one mind at a time. This appears to be a new Malice-Ichor, whose abilities allow them to target multiple dragons at a time -- though the resemblance to Hemlock does suggest that they may be allies. Thus, finding one could mean finding the other. For the time being, all reports involving illusions or infighting should be compared against reports of both Hemlock and this potential new Malice-Ichor. Hemlock remains a high-priority target for the damage he has done, and if he has an ally that could assist in finding and ultimately killing him, it could be a major victory for us.
