Imperial dragons are said to have a deep sense of honour and shame, and an equally deep love of mastery in their crafts.
The combination of these things, in some way, led to this individual renouncing his name and home and departing for the Ruins. He will not speak of it (though he happily, if demurely, discourses on anything else), but when the first Obelisks were unearthed again, everyone knows that he left the clan for a time to hide his feelings from others.

He came home with two strangers in tow, and an infant obelisk they had cobbled together from parts, whom he refused to acknowledge more than was necessary. Nil had dark fears about Kintsugi's childhood and normative emotional development, some sort of deep terror of an obelisk berserk state only he seemed to know anything about - which coloured their relationship as much as the one he had with her fathers, though these days he and they have a slightly uneasy understanding.

One night, having overindulged in some way, he revealed to Hiyya that somewhere out in the world was a golem he had made before, who knows him by the magical tether connecting them and wants to kill him dead.
