Biography

31.png

Lovingly adopted from eccentric and passionate parents, Balgerda followed the Teahouse tradition to rename herself during her coming-of-age. Already learned in the ways of masonry and committed to the craft of stonebreak, she now goes by the moniker Rail, for it's sturdy safety, infaillable guidance and intricate difficulty in craft.

Rail usually does the heavy lifting in the Teahouse. The snapper can be found deep in the bedrock, following instructions scribbled and hastily hewn on the walls by Tempest and Graphite. She's always there during construction efforts and mealtimes, where she travels swiftly and efficiently from the deep, winding hallways to the surface.

Rail follows a punctual route set by minute changes in glowing moss which carry the glow of daylight down the hallways and makes very constant rounds to change the wicks of oil lamps and turn hourglasses along the deepest part of her route. This is part of the reason that the hallways she often travels have been lovingly called railroad by other dragons.

The snapper doesn't mind carrying others, since she travels the route several times during mornings and evenings, mostly to ferry rock and debris on her way up. Rail is a large eater and usually has several plates at mealtime, each interrupted by a round of rock ferrying or hourglass turning. Teahouse dragons therefore often hitch a ride on her sturdy back on her hikes, as it is a sure way to reach their destination on time and in good company.

The snapper has regular walking meetings with council members to discuss expansions, layouts, facilities and the purchase of more or sturdier (replacement) hourglasses and oil lamps. If you aim for a seat on her back, there is a schedule posted for her meetings and meals in the common room. Be on time, since Rail hates delays and will most likely not wait!

Rail also acts as a living map and library. The cartographer and construction master has a sharp and lasting memory, which she constantly refreshes in a humming recital on her walk. Any conversation with her is therefore interspersed by the gentle rumble of under-the-breath knowledge and rhythmical set of sturdy claws on stone.

Rail only travels on the 5 weekdays where she isn't busy with construction or reading one of her many tomes. Her room, in the depths of the bedrock, is filled with bound paper and old parchment and the library has been expanded several times in an attempt to house all of her possessions. Although it is said that Snapper dragons do not rest, Rail has found merit in short 20-minute naps to boost concentration. During weekdays, she can therefore be found in a deep sleep each 2 hours, during which she will not and should not be disturbed.
