The sands of the charged barrens is unique, found nowhere else in the known world. Yet its mundanity lends to its lack of study; there is nothing of immediate importance about sand that boasts only a slightly paler, more glittery complexion than most other sands.

Exclusive to this region, too, is its weather. Few other lands experience charged sandstorms, in which a sandstorm and a thunderstorm occur at once in the same place. The result is, unsurprisingly, a hellscape of whirling sand and lightning. Nothing is known to come out of one alive, and there is seemingly nothing to gain from going in one anyway, for the so-called barrens, miles of miles of sand and sky and not much else, are told to have little to offer, and even less to hide.

Even the western scrub has greenery. Even the canyons teem with opportunist fauna. The geography "experts" of the Expanse rest confident that nothing of significance exists in the barrens, not a shred of life nor sustenance. To venture there is aimless. To stay there is suicide.
