Raine is a cautious, paranoid creature who is quick to take flight before he would ever stand and fight. His instincts for survival are very keen due to many years living off of the land on the Snowsquall Tundra. It was the wilderness that called to him the strongest, beyond the Cloudscrape Crags further from the comforts of home as he once knew it.

As fate drew him closer to his true calling, he found himself at the mercy of a terrible beast that had not only outwitted him, but severely wounded him in the process of the hunt. Even as he ran for his life Raine did not believe that he would be long for this world. He strained himself, if only to take another breath, then another after that. His blood stained freshly fallen snow with every step and each wingbeat for what felt like miles.

Tarik smelled dragon blood on the wind as he flew low over the tundra. He recalled the trees shuddering with the force of a large predator closing in on its prey. Usually he would not choose to interfere in such a natural process, but this time his conscience shifted uneasily and the spirit that usually nagged at him was very still as if waiting for him to make a decision. Tarik saw the panicked mirror between the trees and at once he had angled his flight path to intercept the charging beast at Vipus' heels.

Raine woke as if from a nightmare, however the pain that wracked his body the next moment confirmed that what he could recall was not a dream. He found himself looking up at a cavernous cave ceiling, but he could hear the sound of hushed voices speaking just outside of the cave mouth. Some time later he would learn that another Mirror called Chroma had tended to his wounds, and an Imperial dragon named Tarik had saved him.

Chroma was the only one who spoke to him directly for the longest time. She frustratingly dodged his questions by answering with questions of her own. Once he had recovered from his wounds she gave him a choice: stay and repay the IceWarden's mercy with service to the IceFallen, or return to the wilderness from which he came and never come back to this place. He wanted to know the dragon who had saved him, but Chroma informed him that Tarik, for that was his name, was away tending to his own duties.

Raine chose to stay, perhaps not for the IceWarden or to serve a higher purpose as the White One preached, but in order to meet the one who saved him.

It was months before Raine would meet Tarik face to face, and by then he had been assigned a bed to sleep in, regular meal times to remain healthy and strong, and an occupation to give his stay here purpose. He got to know the other dragons that lived here, each one had a story how they arrived and many of them thanked the IceWarden for calling them Home. He learned about Tarik through the others as well. Tarik was kind and fair, worked alone, travelled far and always returned Home.

When Tarik did return home, Vipus felt better at peace here. His wounds had entirely healed and he was growing stronger by the day. He had even begun to bond with the Sentry Order Gaolers of the Night Heralds. At first, the thanks that Raine had thought of for this dragon caught in his throat. Tarik gave him a kind, but knowing smile and nodded to him. Their bond was unspoken, Raine knew that he need not thank his savior for bringing him Home.

"May the IceWarden keep you."

DESCRIPTION

Raine has two sets of wings; one is leathery and typical of a Mirror dragon, the other pair of wings are feathered. When Raine synchronizes his wingbeats with both sets of wings he makes virtually no sound when in flight. He uses this ability to his advantage while Hunting.
