Hyperion has long since cast off the peaceful, innate tranquility characteristic of most water dragons, and only the color of her eyes and the glimmering stars on her wings link her back to her birthplace in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. She scries rarely, drags futures from the language of stars, and writes them in the ice that rings around her legs, around her neck like she is writing epitaphs. She found her way to the clan with such a vicious thirst for a fight that Faraday took it upon herself to educate the young Imperial when she crossed into the borders. ("I see my youth in you." The matriarch says when she pins Hyperion's weak, exhausted self to the dry rock of the Carrion Canyon, gentle even as the lesson she delivers is harsh, "Come, little one. You will learn, should you desire a place here." Hyperion's eyes burn, furious and hateful at the elder dragon that had beaten her so easily, and she balks when she is met with an equally intense, impossibly ancient, vibrant blue gaze. "You know nothing." She spits angrily, bares her teeth despite herself when Faraday's massive wings hood to make her already intimidating figure even more so. "I see myself in you." Faraday hums her repetition, bends her great neck to look back at the scattering of dragons that watches and waits for any indication that she needs assistance, and turns back to the weakened Imperial, "Come, Mal Gein. Absolution rests in lightning and flame. Home rests ahead.") Hyperion turns her nose up at the idea of sitting idly in times of fighting because of her heritage, and instead wades into a battlefield without hesitation. She has the tendency to plant herself at the forefront and hurl ice at her enemies coupled with simply overpowering them with brute force. She has no talent for true magic in the way Spinel and Beryl and Ulkrahfil twist threads of their elements together or how they sling surges of shadows or vines, but she has tempered her physical strength against Faraday's seemingly endless might with singleminded determination. The Skydancer does not bar her from joining in on any battlefront and instead walks into any necessary fight with Hyperion at her flank like grim sentinels come to pass judgment. She finds absolution not only in lightning and flame, but in ice as well. by clouded by smellyoak by adalfyre |
