Biography

medea rottoway

|| Background
Though few would ever suspect it, Medea hails from royal blood. She was hatched to the Carrion King of Rottoway and his mate, one of the scaleless dragons of his lineage rumored to have their roots in the Wyrmwound itself. And more than that, she came out of the egg unique; she hatched with a secondary pair of fragile, skeletal wings growing underneath her own. Her father delighted in her mutations, and Medea was named Abberant Princess of Rottoway.

But instead of this lofty title sparing her from the horrors of her home clan, Medea faced more scrutiny than nearly any of her kin. She was raised almost more like a circus display than a hatchling, paraded around like some fancy thing to show off whenever her father felt the need; and she was not exempt from fighting her two brothers when the King demanded it. By the time Medea had her first flight (publicly, and to a great audience, eager to see how she would cope), she knew that this life was killing her.

It took a great deal of time for Medea to plan and execute her escape. She had many eyes on her, after all; a living spectacle was hard to ignore. But she got lucky, and one night after a battle had worn out the Rottoway's fighting fit, she snuck off into the tunnels alone, and managed to find her way into the open surface of the Abiding Boneyard. She was finally free.

Her frantic escape did not go unnoticed— but not by the denizens of Rottoway. Upon breaching the surface, Medea found herself facing a strange Mirror with a painted-on mask. Desperate for any assistance she could get, Medea threw herself at the Mirror's feet and begged her to help her flee to safety. It took only seconds for the Mirror to nod her assent, and she guided Medea across the Wasteland to her new home at the Bone Spire.

|| Current
Facing a brand new world, Medea is unsteady on her feet, and clings to her new friend Yespar more often than not for guidance. One of the first things she did upon her recovery was enlist the skills of a fleshweaver in order to change her body and attempt to remove her vestigial wings; though the wings remained, it was this that gave Medea the body of a Wildclaw. Not only that, but her skin began growing bony lumps not long after, a change that she welcomes for its protection and distinction from her parents.

At first, Medea was unsure if she would remain in the Bone Spire, but she had nowhere else to go— and besides, the Children were one of the few who were willing to overlook her mutations. Now feeling at least semi-welcome, Medea has flung herself into her new task with great glee. She earned her Blood-Mark handily, and finally feels like she is a part of something, no longer an attraction to gawk at. She has little to call her own, but her new family is proving to be more than a place of berth; for the first time, Medea is just a face in the crowd, and that's all she's ever wanted.

|| Notes
◈ Medea's infamous secondary wings are nearly useless; they do not provide her any extra lift in flight and in fact often hinder her movement. Due to this, she is a poor flier and prefers to run or glide whenever she can.
◈ She is in her mid-twenties.
◈ Idol is a simple, small statue that Medea was given by Asgari during her initial recovery. She holds the figure when she's nervous and prays her anxieties away to the Plaguemother.
◈ Medea brought some jewelry and other trinkets with her from Rottoway; she used these to pay for her transformation. The rings she wears on her tail are the only treasures she has left from that time.
◈ Because of her scale-free skin, Medea has to be careful when applying her Blood-Mask, as she can easily get infected if any of the mixture gets into any open scrapes or scratches.
