Biography

Hyun is a lost and unstable experiment, created by the chaotic minds of Jasper and Lucilius. The combination of Luci's old Arcane magic and Jasper's scientific chemistry wielded an abomination of elements: an amalgamation of Arcane, Water, and Lightning. He was given a soul fragment of a lost dragon so that he, a wisp of shifting energy, could have form; but his form was too hideous, and his creators cast him away. Hyun is a being ever-changing, the strength and cohesiveness of his form dependent on his environment and personal wellbeing.

Hyun is an incredibly nervous individual, and as such is always in some unstable sort of shape. If he were of perfectly sound mind, he would perhaps be able to hide the eyes that litter his wings, sink his gills and flatfins back beneath his flesh, stop the glowing of his body; but his anxious nature is too overpowering, so a vaguely draconic shape is the best he can do. The cloak he wears, gifted to him by Murgen, is weighted, and helps ground him to the here and now and ease his worries, if only just a bit.

Because of his ties to the Lightning element, he's very in-tune with the weather, especially thunderstorms. The unstable conditions reflect within him and cause him to flicker in and out more than usual, totally unable to remain solid without his weighted cloak. When the weather is especially calm, he's much more at peace, basking in sweet summer air, or watching dewdrops drip across the window of his room in the spring.
His favourite seasons are autumn and spring, because the changing of environs is relatable to him. He feels more unstable than usual during the transitions, but once the weather settles, so does he; the scents of fall are welcome and soothing, and the newly blossomed flowers of spring are a lovely sight to see.

Aside from his nervous disposition, however, Hyun can definitely be snarky, and he proudly owns his biting wit. His anxiety envelops things such as the fear of future events, but he was blessed (?) with no people-pleasing sensibilities at all and just says what's on his mind. He's developed a fantastic sense of humour since his exposure to other dragons (having been isolated after being tossed out), and, with the help of both it and Murgen, has forged plenty of strong relationships.

He experiences some level of discomfort from his mismatched elemental alignments. Water and Lightning combine into electrical currents, metaphorically sending shockwaves through his (very) nervous system; Lightning and Arcane are an incredibly unstable match, that morph into a burst of energy that always has him on edge. Arcane and Water, at least, become something comforting and warm, soothing magic deep in the marrow of his soul. His cloak is very useful for balancing out the unsteady emotions rocking within him.

Murgen is Hyun's romantic partner, who he loves very dearly. They were the one who found him some years after he was abandoned, helped him find himself and integrate into society. They gave him his cloak, for the sake of his peace.
They're one of his main supports, and he tries to be one for them, too. Their relationship is soft and sweet, quiet touches and doting looks, unspoken understanding and a soul-deep connection.

Piotr and Hyun are good friends, drawn together by an inexplicable connection. Piotr has told him that he feels, senses, knows, the soul fragment that was given to Hyun at his conception; he can recognize it and reach out to it, through the muddled mixture of Hyun's own unique culmination of being. Piotr would never try to make Hyun be Ioseff, or delude himself that he really is her, but he understands that Hyun is as close to a reincarnation as there is and he cherishes the opportunity to know her again.

Ioseff is the owner of the soul fragment given to Hyun when he was "born." She manifests in him as sardonicism, as vulnerability, as bravery even in the face of his world falling to pieces. She is what kept him grounded during his years alone, she is what empowered him to chase his ambitions. Everything unique and brilliant about Ioseff unfolded itself within him and joined the mastery of his new soul, and it shines through so clearly that those who knew her now meet her again through him.
