Mystrun

Right as I realized this, I heard someone clear their throat behind me. My eyes widened, and I whirled around, heart leaping against my rib cage like a frightened bird.
A beautiful Nocturne was perched curiously on a branch a few yards away. I could immediately tell fae were different, somehow, from all the other dragons I had met before.
“Hello,” fae said. It was a simple statement, and faer voice was both curious and defensive.
“Hello,” I replied. “If I may ask, where am I?”
Fae cocked faer head to one side, almost playfully. A slow smile spread across the Nocturne’s face. “You are in The Wood now,” fae said. “This is a place of beauty.”
A chill ran down my spine, not entirely unpleasant.
The Nocturne continued to stare at me with a gaze that pinned me in place. “What is your name?”
I cleared my throat. “Mystrun,” I responded. “And yours?”
Fae smiled once again, revealing teeth that gleamed like small, waning crescent moons. “I am Duskwalker.” Fae leaped from the tree branch in one fluid motion, stopping only a few steps away from me. “You are quite beautiful, did you know that?”
I swallowed hard. “No. But if all your clan is as beautiful as you, I would feel sorely out of place.”
Duskwalker smiled again, and that smile spoke of the night. “Nonsense. Your skin maps the stars, as does mine, and the stars are our guides. You were meant to come here.”
My chest constricted. It was not just because of the kind, beautiful dragon standing before me; it was the feeling of belonging. Of home.
“Come, let me introduce you to The Wood.”
