“Anytime now, Feldspar,” Falco growled.

“Working on it…” Feldspar buzzed around the darting streaks.

Something had driven them mad to attack the surrounding clans, Beasts, and wildlife even at the expense of their own lives. Falco sported the cuts of their beaks and claws on his back and shoulders, but it seemed that no matter how many they knocked broken out of the sky, there were always more to replace them.

Feldspar caught the eye of the first streak he could━quite difficult with how fast they were moving━and twirled to the beat of his wings. The streak appeared confused for a moment, rising and falling on its wings as it watched. “Got one!” Feldspar announced.

“Happy to hear it, buddy!” Stratus didn’t sound at all sincere. “There’s only about a hundred more!” With a whip of his tail, he folded a wing and batted another two streaks away from scratching him.

“I hate flying with rookies.” With that, Falco pulled back and beat his wings in front of him. He nipped for the nearest streak but missed.

“It’s not like this is easy for me!” With that, Feldspar flew to try to catch another, stationing his newest companion at Falco’s flank. Feldspar had never been very good at this; he didn’t have the wherewithal to command himself, much less another or even dozens of creatures flying at his wingbeat and whipped mane. It wasn’t often that he wished he were back at school, but on days like this he would have given anything for a lecture hall…

After studying at university in search of new things to explore, he returned home to become a scout for his swarm. He did whatever they said he should do next: get a job, a family, support himself and the swarm. Even still, he wasn’t really interested in doing any of those things. What he really wanted to do was to see the world. He wanted to watch the wars, map the magic, find the mysteries.

Perhaps obviously, Feldspar became a scout at the first available opportunity. Due to a Veilspun’s small size, he never went very far beyond Shadow territory in any of his individual missions, mostly spying on the nearby Talonok who would have loved nothing more than to be rid of their lacertilian neighbors. Rarely did they cause any overt trouble, mostly because the swarm was generally self-contained and didn’t like to meddle with the affairs of outsiders. Unfortunately, that didn’t mean that outsiders stayed out of their affairs.

One day, Feldspar returned to the site where his swarm lived to find absolutely nothing but the little huts and nests they lived in crushed and burnt to ash. Nothing and nobody answered his call, and frantically he searched the woods around. He knew it was a vain hope that his swarm and mate had escaped, but he searched anyway. His search led him eventually out of Shadow into places he’d never seen, places he only dreamed of being. However, life on the wing for a small dragon wasn’t easy: he avoided being eaten more than once, was taken for all his valuables on multiple occasions, and slept in the bitter wind and furious cold alone. He’d never been so alone…

Dodging what seemed like the tenth hungry roc in a week, Feldspar climbed into a ribcage hanging from the support of a tent and found himself in the company of the Tempest Chase. Since the group was nomadic, Feldspar joined in the hopes he could find out what happened to his swarm. Unfortunately, except for his more recent experience dodging enemies he didn’t know he had, he wasn’t much one for fighting. He was about to learn. Well, it worked out all right in the end, I suppose.

It’s unclear if it’s a peculiarity of Veilspuns in general or Darkbramble specifically, but he’s drawn to lights in darkness. Usually he’s able to overcome the urge and curl up and go to sleep at night, but every now and again his interest gets the better of him. Perhaps from his desire to see what’s hidden where he can’t see clearly… Whatever the case, this

» Darkbramble’s full name is Feldspar Darkbramble, and he prefers to be called Feldspar. His name is a family name from his old swarm in Shadow territory.

» Even though Feldspar likes the peaceful solitude he’s found in the ribcage usually hanging outside Cruor’s tent, he really does love spending time with his friends. As long as they don’t hunt him down for spectacular stories of his busy little life and give him his space, he could quite possibly spend forever with them. Whaddya say, then — should I get out the ol’ harmonica?
