Daybreak was never a soldier as he was expected to be; he joined a traveling circus as a dancer and actor capable of extraordinary acrobatic feats
he showed incredible talent and was quite successful
one day, a jealous performer slipped a sleeping agent into Daybreak's tea and dragged him to the border of plague and shadow, leaving him for the hyenas
Cinder was the one who found him and stepped in to stop the predators from harming him
he started to go off to find his troupe, but Cinder convinced him to come back to the Reach for just a little while, since it would be dangerous to go alone
Daybreak started to like it there and took up a job as an event and schedule manager, deciding to stay a while
he frequently performs at clan festivals and is happily mated to Phoenix
Daybreak is a little narcissistic and egotistical, but he exudes positivity and wants to help others build similar confidence

Lore~

The Scarred Wasteland is not considered beautiful. It’s a place where dragons prioritize survival, not aesthetic. Even so, there have been many dragons born there who never quite fit the mold. One of these many is Daybreak. He was born to your average plague clan, survivors and warriors who did their best to make sure their children were powerful just like their predecessors. When they started training him, they noticed something amiss.

Not only did he fail at every form of combat they tried to teach him- including combative magic- he showed much more interest in music. In showing off. The few musicians in the clan couldn’t seem to shake him off, and he spent hours creating intricate costumes and dancing to the battle music. All of the clan members were confused. No one had ever seen this sort of innate artistry. They were under the assumption that traits like these had to be taught.

Time passed, Daybreak grew up. The adolescent skydancer had developed quite a sense of self. He made all his own clothes, each outfit more elaborate than the last, sometimes spending every ounce of treasure on imported materials. He performed and practiced constantly, a theatrical and dramatic character who frequently annoyed fellow clanmates. He was, of course, oblivious to this, but the others were getting desperate. He made plenty of treasure through public performances but he was useless at hunting and fighting, the core elements of what his birth clan did.

Eventually, they hatched a plan to get rid of him. A traveling circus from the Tangled Wood was moving through the area and seeking out new recruits. Daybreak’s birth clan suggested he go with the circus, and the skydancer didn’t refuse. Finally! Someone would actually appreciate his work. For a few years, Daybreak traveled with the circus and performed for them.

The young skydancer was quite certain that the entire world was enthralled with his beauty and performances. He was artistic, confident, and radiated positive energy. Most dragons were indeed enthralled with him, so his ego was only fed by the standing ovations he so often received. Eventually, the circus moved through the Foxfire Bramble. And everything changed. A jealous fellow actor within the circus- a fierce wildclaw named Zorin- decided to make sure that Daybreak would never steal his spotlight again.

While Daybreak was performing, Zorin slipped a sleeping agent into his tea. And when the skydancer inevitably collapsed, Zorin dragged him into the brambles, cut his arms a bit to bait dire hyenas with the blood, and left him for dead. The predators were closing in when Cinder happened upon him. The orange skydancer stepped in and frightened off the pack before gently waking Daybreak up. When Daybreak realized what had happened, he started to leave, stating he had to catch his troupe.

Cinder stopped him, pulling him back and demanding to know what made him crazy enough to go back. When he was finally able to convince Daybreak that he wouldn’t be safe with the circus anymore, Cinder offered the younger skydancer a sanctuary in the Twisted Reach. Daybreak reluctantly accepted. He took up a job as an event and schedule manager, carefully working clan meets, alliance conferences, and other important daily tasks for each of the clan members. He never lost his flair for performance however, and unfortunately for the rest of the clan, his ego is inflated as ever. But as always, Daybreak is a positive influence who, even despite his own narcissism, works to build others up with the same confidence and strength of character that he has.
