FAMILIAR

Familiar: Nochnyr

Name: Grane

About: Dragana does not know who or what created Grane and other nochnyrs like her - but she knows she is not keen on someone who would create such a thing and abandon it.

Even nochnyrs born to nochnyrs bear stitchmarks, she has learned. Even nochnyrs born to nochnyrs are the same strange assemblage of parts, created by someone not present to care for them.

She thinks of Lambent, stripped of what he sought and left to his own devices, and there is something protective to how she strokes Grane.

What some call a cure
is not a cure to all.

PERSONALITY

There are those one might think should help. Those who have the standing and the responsibility to step in.

Some do not because they are cowards. Because they hate conflict so much they will not even dare head it off at the pass, will not make a statement lest a fight breaks out. Some do not because they wish to avoid conflict, who tackle it from another direction. Some do it because they do not see they should help, or that they even can.

It hardly matters in the end, though. Dragana knows what she thinks of those who have the power to help and yet refuse to - it is not anything kind.

ABOUT

If Dragana knows from whence she came, she never says it. As far as she's concerned, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how many Plague-priests she's fought and fed from over the years of her life, or how long it took her to tame her hunger - she has tamed it now.

What she does know, she doesn't tend to share - she was a skilled pathokinetecist prior to becoming a Mercy though no one would guess from her wings. This is part of how she learned to tame and direct her hunger; she is amongst the eldest of the such known to exist.

She has met many other Mercys over the years. Some she has helped, some she has had to hurt, for they would try to take her Plague from her, the Plague she has fought to capture and keep and feed from.

She keeps an ear out, always and ever, for stories of new Mercys, children given the power, Hollowed creatures recently given some new connection, which is how she heard of Cordierite, found by one of the Order of the Broken Bone - a clan of failures made powerful in their failure, of Priests who failed like Acolytes and Acolytes who succeeded like Priests, a clan's order capable of curing with a curse.

She did not know what might happen to one so young and new to Mercyhood as Cordierite seemed to be in such a clan. Even given that the clan was known for a strange kindness, that they had taken in and tried to treat ones so mad as Sparagmos, Sparagmos' madness was at least of a known kind.

A Mercy was new, a Mercy who hadn't drained all Plague from one so weak in Plague as a Sickle is was strange.

Dragana rose from her rest and went.

A child needed tutelage. She has had long enough practice to know how to give it.

A LETTER SENT

Dear Head Archivist Ague,

You know not who I am and nor may you ever. I have existed almost as long as you, in the grand scheme of things, and we started on a similar path. Our paths diverged at the Trials however and further thence.

You have likely heard stories. Wraiths are one thing, they have persisted a while, existing safely on the edges, known and unknown - though they are only being truly studied now, the theory behind their existence has long been understood.

The theory behind my ilk, however, is a heresy and we are very good at not being found.

This scroll comes with a set of vials. Within them are each unique strains which it has taken me some time to procure. The first, to prove that I trod some of the same path as you, is the Plague of our Lady, that which She sets to our flesh to shape our future after we make our choice. The second, to prove our divergence, contains its wild variant, that which happens when a Attemptant is unable to tame the infection. The third, to show sanity, contains it deadened, nullified and neutralised and held in stasis.

The last vial contains what some may call heresy. I entrust only you with this, for your age, your position, and your well known stance on discovering the truest facts before naming something heresy. Some would call us a heresy, for our making requires an implicit belief against what the Council chooses to believe of the lowest echelons of your order's castes - but we exist, and we can touch Plague much as you do. If our Lady Plaguebringer has given us this, are we truly such a heresy? The last vial contains our Lady's infection - gone wild, forcibly neutralised, and reawoken.

I promise, Master Ague, that this vial does not contain death given new life. It is not true necromancy in it's most forbidden form, but simply the erasure of the stasis imposed upon it - that which renders those hollowed of Plague so toxic rather than breaking down into nothingness, and that which prohibits their connection to Plague itself.

Master Ague, you are well known to be no fool. Investigate these as you will. Investigate this letter even - I promise, you shall not find it's origin. No pathologic psychometry will let you find it's source and my current location - there are no pathogens for you to trace, aside from that of the courier, a neutral party, and your own assistant into who's hands this letter was to be delivered.

I do not ask that you speak for us. I do not ask that you trust us. But I do ask that you study, that you learn the facts you are so famed for seeking, and that you consider all you have been given. The vials await your study.

--From the private correspondence of Ague, Head Archivist of the Council. This letter was unsigned and the vials have been removed to a safe location.

A PORTRAIT FROM HER YOUTH

RELATIONSHIPS
64753938p.png Cordierite | Foster-Daughter

The very reason she settled with the Order of the Broken Bone, Cordierite is an unusual young Mercy to say the least, and Dragana was deeply fascinated by the reports she heard of both Cordierite and her companion Sickle. She has taken the young Mercy under her wing and can be quite protective.

72095687p.png Ciamorz | Adoptive Son

When Dragana first found him, Ciamorz was wandering and lost, without a connection he had found and fought for and craved in its absence.
Dragana is not a cruel dragon - she gave him a way to have that bond back. When next she found him he had grown and changed - and taken a darker path than she had hoped - but he was working to be something new. Dragana has always been a mentor, and she has willingly taken Ciamorz under her wing once more.
48624068p.png Sentinel | Godson

Some dragons get fairy godmothers - Sentinel gets a scary one. He does love Dragana though, the motherly, mentorly figure who's helped him realise things for himself, and she loves him in turn, the strange creature learning what it is to finally be himself as he decides.

63815408p.png Lambent | Mate

Lambent does not talk to most others. He rarely even signs. But with Dragana - well. He finds it easier with Dragana. He knows, with Dragana, he is understood, and Dragana endeavours to make sure he never feels so alone again as he did when she first found him.

Likhoradka & Pestilentia | Tea Party & Book Club

Everyone needs a break from work, and for these three that involves a tea and book club with some of the other imperials of the clan. Pestilentia and Likhoradka are fascinating, well-learned dragons and Dragana enjoys the time she spends with them, discussing the books they read - from great tomes of research, to trashy pulp novellas.
