PERSONALITY & QUIRKS

Shipwright is a loud, commanding presence in any situation. His ability to draw the attention in the most crowded room is a revered one, something many find themselves jealous of. Shipwright also has an extreme love for violence at times. This love is only allowed to be persistent in Shipwright’s otherwise calm demeanor because of his cold calculations and strength.
Shipwright has the odd quirk of spending many nights in the Crow’s Nest of his ship. He only ever explains this habit as a way for him to keep an eye out for trouble at all times, though many suspect a fear of tightly closed spaces instead.

ABOUT

History
Shipwright was born on the very edge of the Wandering Contagion and only due to his parents high bounty and little places to safely have hatchlings. Only hours after breaking out of the egg was the little Banescale thrust upon a ship for the first time in his life. A childhood upon a pirate ship is an extremely dangerous one, one that gave Shipwright the instincts he needed to survive. The instinct to follow orders of his captain without question, or spot an enemy ship leagues away, was something that would later help Shipwright’s career immensely.
Shipwright’s parents were the quartermaster and boatswain aboard the Fae’s Bane, a galleon notorious for raiding various coastal settlements. Shipwright learned from a young age the art of command and scheming. The command came easily as lessons while following his strict parents around. The scheming came from sneaking into meetings after the captain of the ship who devised plans for the next raid.
It was in his teenage youth, after years of learning the ins and outs of every job and spot aboard the Fae’s Bane did Shipwright finally earn the first step towards captain hood. The current captain saw deep potential within the rare eyed dragonet and appointed him as their student of sorts. Shipwright at first did menial tasks for the captain, but constantly strived for harder and better jobs to prove his worth. By adulthood Shipwright had gone through being even quartermaster and boatswain like his parents before him. Unlike his parents though, Shipwright left the Fae’s Bane when the captain deemed he had enough experience. Shipwright started on an extremely small ship, barely a brigantine, slowly working his way up to a galleon over the years. Only once has he lost a ship in his life so far, and only due to a foe that even he admits outdid Shipwright’s cleverness. Over the years Shipwright had also learned the best way to earn a dragon’s loyalty, gifting himself with a small but talented and loyal team in the end.
When Shipwright first met Jei it was during a raid on a small cargo ship. Jei caught Shipwright’s attention due to the way she seemed to purposefully cower and act meek during his inspection for worthwhile potential crewmembers or servants. The look in her eyes when he brought her head up to meet his own both challenged and drew him. This convinced Shipwright to take Jei aboard his third personally captained ship, the Huntress of the Ashes, to test and see if she could earn his crew’s trust and respect.
Somehow it didn’t surprise Shipwright when Jei caught quickly onto his hope for her, and to adapt to becoming a member of the pirate galleon’s crew. Even though the Huntress had an infamous reputation of raiding, stealing, and ransoming for treasure or gems, Jei didn’t seem to mind. She slowly earned the same respect from the crew Shipwright had hoped for her and became invaluable to the ship. All the while Shipwright did his best to navigate the awkward affair of courting, something no training had ever taught him, growing close to the shifty Banescale as time limped on. The stories he pried from her of the abusive father that ignored her until Jei could be used for profit angered him, but it also made him glad to know she took the future into her own claws. After months of careful courting (and scheming) for Jei’s love, Shipwright won the right to be her mate.
For years the pair, their beautiful ship, and talented crew raided and plundered the world of Sornieth. They earned their notorious reputation without regret, that is until they lost everything. Shipwright would never forget the burning anger and pain that the loss of the Huntress and her crew caused, vowing to never rest until vengeance was served. While The Baron may of beaten the murder hungry Banescales at the time, it would never be able to go anywhere without looking over its shoulders for the eventuaal justice.
Shipwrecked at sea and barely even clinging on to each other, Jei and Shipwright floated along the coast of Wispwillow Grove before being tossed on the edge of Goldwood. It was there the Sanctuary of Diversity found the pair and took them in, allowing them to stay as long as they needed. Jei settled into a life in the Sanctuary more easily than the battle hardened dragon that Shipwright was, but the tranquility of the place called to him. It was here at the Sanctuary that Shipwright was able to finally learn what peace could be like, and enjoy time on land that he was never able to before. The name Stormgrip was chosen as a way to honor both his and Jei’s weathering of tough times and literal storms throughout their lives.
It took many years for Shipwright to earn much trust from the Sanctuary, and he never revealed his true past easily. A member of a pirate crew wishing to change his ways would be all he’d say. While it took painstakingly earning everything again, Shipwright did manage to get a ship and eventually become Admiral of the Sanctuary’s small trading and fighting fleet.
Currently
Shipwright loves his ship, the Bane of Nothing, even though most of his days were now spent tracking the few ships of the fleet or trading with various ports and clans. If he can, Shipwright will join his mate Jei for breaks at a tavern or teaching his hatchlings the trade of sailing.
Shipwright has no particular interest in hatchlings, his eldest son Isavar always somewhat of an oddity to him. Isavar’s easy going personality was out of place in the family of former pirates but he still was one of the most ferocious fighters within the Sanctuary. Shipwright is delighted in the fact that Isavar also loves the open seas but sad that he prefers trading and diplomacy to the more bloody part of craft. Though he tries to coach his son into becoming a slightly more terrifying heir, he hopes for a hatchling that inherits his violent tendencies to take Isavar’s place.

FAMILIAR BACKGROUND/PERSONALITY

Shipwright has always had a thing for the outrageous, and his familiar is no exception. Most dragons avoid Rainbow Sprites on principle but Shipwright found a perfect use for them after the sinking of the Huntress. After managing to corral and almost tame these flighty fish, Shipwright uses them as a defense measure for his ships. The hive is kept in the bottom deck of the ship with an opening to the water below. If the hive is disturbed by anything or anyone outside of the ship's crew they will attack and allow the crew of their nest ship to either escape or fight back. This has been surprisingly effective much to Shipwright's delight. He is fascinated by the unwary would be thieves being bombarded by the small but deadly swarms of fish.

SKILLS & HOBBIES

Shipwright is a skilled fighter, one of the best on Sornieth. While hindered by the same land bound weakness of other Banescales, he makes up for it in pure speed and strength. Shipwright will do anything he can to get his opponents into the air or water where he can easily overpower them. Shipwright rose to captain through not just brute violence, but a great head for strategy and planning. Shipwright constantly thinks 5 or more moves ahead and it is rare to see anyone best him in chess.
Shipwright's main hobby is visiting local taverns for strong drinks and warm meals when he can. That is, as well as the inevitable violence that follows drunk dragons and close quarters. Sometimes on shore leave or during his free time, Shipwright will find someone willing to play a bit of chess or some other strategy game to help him stay on his claws.

I'm back, thanks for your patience everybody! I'm feeling much better now, so let's continue.

@wolfdragon3036
Got yours as pairs, also I'd love to buy a banecale hatch from that pair, if they're breeding.

Jei & Shipwright: A former pirate captain and his wife. Ever since their ship sank, due to an unfortunate accident with multiple octoflyers, these two have been landlocked. They are not yet used to their new lives and would love to one day own another boat. And get revenge on those blasted octoflyers while they're at it.

Akiruch & Deria: Although they look like toys, they're actually spirits of some sorts. One of them shows up in nice dreams, and one of them in nightmares. They guide the dreamer through their dream, hoping that they'll learn from their own subconcious.
