origin. german, danish, english. ────── ❂ ────── Thomas was lonely, or at least he discerned so. It must’ve been difficult being the only reanimated statue for miles. Ishbel knew but one fix for this issue, and it was the tricky, finicky, unpredictable kind. The type of option that only crossed the most daring of minds. How fortunate, then, that Ishbel was especially driven. She and the doctor set out for the yard as dawn stirred from slumber. They weaved through the concrete garden and gingerly inspected each statue, their previous blind blunder still painfully fresh. When the two eventually selected their subject, the incantation was made, and a name was bestowed: Theresa. Theresa was insatiably curious, even more so than her sibling in stone. It was no surprise that she was irked when Ishbel insisted on treating her like an amnesiac, but the true shock hit when her exasperated in-law inevitably relayed the story of Theresa’s creation. They say ignorance is bliss; this newfound knowledge only fueled Theresa’s rage. There had been no care in her making, no wistful yearning, only a job to fill. She was but a medicinal machination meant to cure solitude. Solitude! Thomas was by no means lonely, he had a doting wife and supportive friends and a wonderful workplace! The list only went on, and Theresa would not take it. She’d show the world. Thomas didn’t need her. This hunger for separation couldn’t stop Theresa from following her brother’s path as an Asterwick guard, but she ensured they never crossed paths. She took her post in the wooded wilds, far from the city’s inner circles, where she still makes her rounds in stagnant silence. | ___ |
