In the Amsterwick orchards, there is no time for lazing about beneath the apple trees. Those dragons hoping to get a few minutes of shut-eye are found without fail by Dalia, the orchard master, and sent back to work tending to the trees instead of catching some Zs.

Dalia is not a strict dragon, though, so much as she cares deeply for her work. The hands she hires to assist her during harvest season are not a show of wealth and prosperity, but a genuine need and a community service. After all, Amsterwick must be fed, and its future must be secure. She cannot tend to the apricots and oranges forever, mortal as she is, and one day, someone will have to take her place. It's the core sentiment behind her drive to hire eager help: with a little luck, her successor could very well be picking persimmons beside her these days.

That said, she's not likely to retire any time soon. Her brother Nir still manages the grain fields with a deft hand, and she hardly means to retire while he's still able to work. They've boasted for years about the many ways their crops will outclass the other's, and retiring first would be like giving up the fight. Who gives their sibling an easy victory like that?

So for now, Dalia continues to mind her orchards, supplying wood for bows and arrows to Amsterwick's armory in the off-season, and wrangling every last helping hand during planting and the harvest. Not a day goes by without hard work, but year after year, she takes immense pride in the fruits of her labors.
