“although i'm called the Mage of Flowers, that's just because i like flowers. i'm not sure how to feel about having flowers bloom as i walk, though!” about a man of an even more mysterious origin than those he surrounds himself with, merlin is moreso the court entertainer than mage. he showed up in the Snow Den practically out of nowhere, with no idea as to where he was. in fact the moment he arrived at his Placement Ceremony, he was more concerned about a "tower" than the questioning glares of those around him. of course, this was a while ago, as merlin has now made himself happily at home amongst the other Snow Den residents - thorn in particular. as for his true ambitions? only Caregiver knows. he is often found flittering from place to place, between his rounds in the greenhouses to his courtly duties; the limits as to what merlin is involved in are simply imaginary. he seemingly has a hand in nearly everything that goes on within the Snow Den, even in the darkest of cavern systems. should you question him, you'd be met with a simple smile and a quick (and hardly subtle) subject change. in the rare moments of serenity near him, you can often observe his cast off gaze -- almost as if what he's searching for lies far beyond the horizon line. "under the sky that is the beginning of all things, there are no walls, no castles, no nations. the Primordial Planet dazzles from the bottom of the earth. i'll show you the domain of the soul..." 
personality eccentric and seemingly childish, merlin often comes across as an easygoing (sometimes oblivious) kindhearted male. while to an extent this is true, it does not serve him justice as to what lies inside that mind of his. it sees all, hears all, and knows all -- with a niche ability regarding illusions, you'd most likely see him as more of a threat than the unassuming persona he tries to portray. he seems to have no true feelings towards dragonkind and if you were to try and describe it it'd be something similar to childlike fascination. it does not eat, he does not sleep, his sustenance appears to come from something else (dreams, perhaps? though that could just be fairytale knowing him). whether you see it as a ticking time bomb or simply a magician for entertainment, you cannot deny his power. "creating an artificial paradise in the middle of the wilderness... it's such a dream-like story. i haven't had much opportunities to appear, so now, i've come to play!"
