Contrail

Born of Persephone (traditionalist coatl) and Goshawk (less traditionalist), then raised by Yusei (extreme traditionalist), Contrail and his sister Omen were almost cast out of their nest - the only two hatchlings of their parents' first nest - betrayed by their plain plumage with very little color.

Yusei feared for the health and well-being of the other hatchlings in the nursery, and was halfway out of camp with the two plain coatl children when Watersoul, upon realizing what had happened, chased him down and snatched the babies back.

Since that day, Contrail and Omen have started to rely almost exclusively on each other, and tend to become suspicious when other dragons approach them with friendly voices. He isn't a fool - he knows that plain coatls are bad omens, and there's no way that the rest of Sornieth wouldn't know that too.

He disagrees with Omen's disdain for Shadowbinder, although he understands that arguing with her will only get his feathers cuffed and get neither of them anywhere. He respects her decision to worship Flamecaller, and makes his offerings to Shadowbinder in secret.

He and his sister take to dressing in brightly colored garments, commissioning Xenon to paint their feathers, and wearing bright, bulky, luminescent clothing to hide the snowy plumage underneath.

Contrail is the soft, soothing hums underneath Omen's poisoned growls. While Omen is better at seeking out and collecting abandoned children, Contrail is the one who raises them from hatchling to adult, adorns them with their first colors, and teaches them of Sornieth. He is learned in all of the deities of Sornieth, and ensures that each child is able to know of their birth deity despite living deep in the Tangled Wood.

He enjoys telling stories, and is wonderful at soothing nightmares of the more shy hatchlings, or the ones that were abandoned late enough to remember their parents, and wake up in fits of distress remembering the backs turned and the awful insults.

Contrail is gentle where Omen is biting, and while he understands his sister's anger, he often teases her that her feathers will fall out from stress if she doesn't calm down sometimes. Her furious hisses have long since affected him, and he takes them in stride.

He believes that the Smokefeathers will find their place in Sornieth one day, even if they have to fight and climb the tallest mountains to do so.
