THE CLAN LEADER

Shired, the progenitor of the clan, had a vision. He commended to his three warriors, Kintsugi, Bijoux and Nightpeach to find a clan leader. "But why not you offer yourself as the clan leader?" Night asked, to which Shired shook his head. "It's nature's demand."

And with that simple reply, the three dragonesses spread their wings and flew towards the place they were told the destined-to-be clan leader would be born: Hewn City, within the Lighweaver's domain.

An egg that was both as dark as the night and as resplandecent as the day was the description they were given. But no egg was found! Confused, the 3 dragonesses asked the locals about the eggs.
"Oh, you must mean the nest of that couple. They are quite famous for bringing eggs like that to the world. But it's been a while since they have nested, so best you can find are already born dragons." A very kind dragon told them. They looked at eachother and shrugged at unison, so they swapped to looking for grown up dragons instead.

Eventually, they found many dragons-presumably siblings-that were just like the eggs they had been described. Metallic, black scales with the sun's blessing on the runes alongside their paws. Kintsugi approached a female and explained her their situation.

Basically, the conversation would be shortened to, "An old man told us you are our clan leader. Would you like to rule over us? We will protect you with our lives." She smiled fakely, not because she didnt feel happy, but rather because the Imperial didn't quite know how to smile. The obsidian dragonet didnt quite know how to react, but why not? She was completely average within her city, maybe if she moved in to that clan, she would be unique. She accepted, and after Kintsugi gifted her some treasure to start in the clan, they guided her to Shired's cave. The elder shaman smiled and hugged the newcomer.
"Merle, my queen."
"Excuse me?" The obsidian dragon said while tilting her head with confusion.
"I know you dont have a name. So I gave you one." The maize tundra opened his wings to try to look majestic. Merle nodded and went to her new home, the base of a castle. She looked at the banescale that was nearby. "What? do I look like an architect to you?" She scoffed at Merle, and flew away. Merle sighed and laid on what would soon be her nest.

Time passed, and the lair was taking form. Her castle started looking like a castle, and quite a couple of new dragons entered the clan so that they could work and bring riches to it. Merle saw how they would bring couples within the clan, and she got sad because she still didnt have a king. She had asked the shaman many times, but he would completely ignore her every time. The only male of her species that had entered the clan, was kicked out not long after. The dragon decided to take a break and explore the forests that surrounded her castle. It was quite different from her native city, the green eyes of the locals shined in the dark and she loved that. Talking about that, she eventually found a couple of dragons of her species wandering around the outskirts of her clan. She approached them, they looked similar, maybe they were siblings?
"They could be good offerings for the Gladekeeper... I will bring Kintsugi." She ran towards the castle and gave Kintsugi the task to train the two dragons for exaltation. Merle convinced the female pearlcatcher first, and she dissapeared in the woods along with Kintsugi and Lagarto, who would train her. The male kept on his place, seemingly stoic, having accepted his fate. Merle felt the runes of her cheek become blushy, and she quicky slapped herself to make them turn back golden. The male pearlcatcher sneered at her, as if he could read her mind. His deep green eyes pierced onto her yellow ones, he approached her.
"I have never seen a girl like you." He said with a low, cranky voice. Merle's runes shined in a reddish tone now, and she had to slap herself yet again.
"Heh. Im Uri." The dragon presented himself.
"...You are also very unique. I havent found a single dragon with your... ehrm, your..." She had become too nervous, the runes in her body changing colors, betraying her by exposing her feelings for this stranger.
"Mn." Uri made his own runes glitter even more, when he approached his right front paw to her blushy runes. Merle's heart stopped for a second. Uri got even closer to her, his snout almost touching Merle's, until Kintsugi appeared from between the trees.
"It has been done, your highness. Uh..." She could tell by the color of her leader's runes that the plans had changed, so she went back from the path she had taken and told Lagarto to come back home.

"...Sorry about your sister, uh..." Merle now felt incredibly bad. Uri smiled faintly at her.
"Its ok. I would rather she be now with the Gladekeeper instead of, you know, the others..." That last part, he said with a whisper. Merle arched her brows at him. The male in front of her coughed after realising Merle was light-alligned.
"...Would you like to be my mate..." The female asked with all the strenght within her heart. Uri couldn't help become perplexed before laughing out loud.
"Wow! You sure are a unique girl, hehe. I would love to. Want to build a nest like... right now?" He shook his tail, causing Merle's runes to become bloody red.
"Come to my clan... We have to make you king and blahblah before setting a nest..." She calmed down a bit, her runes coming back to their usual coloring. Uri tightened the grip of his pearl and began walking towards the castle with her.

A year passed, Shired told Merle to move the clan to the starfall isles for the prosperity of it, and to leave him behind. And so they had settled on the Star wood strand, the arcane/alligned dragons had moved the castle all the way from Natures domain to there. Merle was in her throne with Uri, helping the dragons that would visit her with any questions about the new settlement they would ask. Kintsugi was asleep behind her throne, her tail serving as a comfortable pillow. She always found curious how a dragon that could easily squash her with a step was so faithful to her. She was very fond of her and her loyalty.
Uri had joined Kintsugi on a nap, but he was on his own throne so the visitors would look at him with arched brows.
"My queen?" Vonna approached her. Merle snapped out of her drowsy state to listen to the snapper.
"Oh, Vonna... What is the matter?" Merle asked. The snapper fidgeted with one of the books she was carrying and adjusted her glasses.
"Uh, I happened to pass next to the royal nesting grounds and I spotted you have a pink egg..."
"...Yeah? Shired always decided which of my dragonets stayed in the clan. But the old ba... woops, sorry. He never chose an heir." Merle said with resignation.
"Are you sure about that, my queen? I inspected the archives and here, it clearly says, 'the first dragon with both pink scales and pink eyes shall reign upon the clan in the future'..."
"..." An awkward silence now reigned amongst the hall, only interrupted by Uri's snoring and Kintsugi-s ocassional dreamy groans.
"...Guess Ill pamper and spoil that egg, ugh Shired why did you tell Vonna and not me!!" Merle said that out loud without noticing, but the snapper didnt seem to mind it. Merle got up and immediately went to visit her pink egg. She picked it up with utmost care, and smiled.
"I will nest it myself. His twins can go find their own clans... but you, my precious kid, are the chosen one, and I love you." She could have swore to see a small glitter flutter inside the eggshell.
"I cant wait to tell Uri and Kintsugi!"
