Snowfall

Each Veilspun nest is, as always, a chaotic affair. And the nest of these pair was no different. They had revealed themselves to the outside world with little fanfare, darting brown and green and white like the colors of the forest around them. Together they would build their nest. Together they had left their home in the Willowhisp grove and traveled here, to this place of stone to find a new place to settle. They had painstakingly flown in the correct materials, and fought off all others to take this hollow in the rock. It was a small den, one they'd be able to suitably nest down in together. Well away from the big dragons that might step on them or creatures that might try to eat them. It was cozy. It would be home.

Whether they were lucky enough to have eggs, or if the Earthshaker denied them that pleasure, they had each other.

"Do you ever miss it?" Solana asked, gently pushing her nose into her mate's mane as they settled down together for the night.

"What, the overcrowding? The noise? The never having a moment's peace?" Basil responded barking a laugh at his mate as he drew her mane out of her face. "I like this. I like the adventure. It's hard, but we're together. We don't need to answer to anyone but each other. No bossy nestleader telling us what to do, no horrible schedules, no nothing. Just each other."

"I definitely don't miss some of that stuff, but what about your sisters? Don't you miss them?" Solana pillowed her head down in the moss they'd gotten to grow in their little cavern. It was cool in the heat of the desert, and kept them warm at night. "I miss mine sometimes. When it gets cold, or when you go out."

"I can definitely admit that it'd be easier if we had someone to watch our backs out here." Basil pondered, letting her curl into his side. He'd never been able to say no to her. It's why they had left in the first place. To have the chance to do this. He'd risk it all again if it meant being able to hold her like this for the rest of their days. "Tomorrow maybe we should go out and scout, see if there's a nestgroup near here. Meet the dragons around us. Make some friends. If we hate them, well, we just won't tell them where we're nested."

"You always seem to have a plan, don't you Basil." Solana smiled, baring her teeth in the low light in a sign of affection as she headbutted him. "Don't worry, I'll fight them off if they get aggressive."
