Biography
SECRECY
Uh-oh, looks like this organized mind wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt them, we'd really appreciate it if you instead could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, send them off in the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread (warning, you will get another traveler in return if you do this), or if you don’t want another traveler in return, this rest hub. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact Hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)! Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it! Secrecy's mind works in graphs and charts, always circling back into itself, always self-organizing. After arriving at Clan Mavenlark's refugee camps in search of a new home alongside her brother, clan secretary Ming was quick to take the gaoler under her wing. Ming appreciated extra help where she could get it, after all, and Secrecy seemed to fit the bill - wicked good at filing away paperwork, always having a kind word for those around her, and amazing at brewing tea. What more could one ask for in a secretary, after all? Ming encouraged her protegee to apply her skills at a clan who would need them - and now, after saying her goodbyes to her brother, she is off in search of just that. Nothing makes Secrecy happier than a bit of order and peace, making an office environment perfect for her. Sure, most take to the road for more exciting ventures, like treasure-hunting, but finding an office job is just about the only goal on this simple girl's mind. The Wandering Clan wasn't one that Secrecy was thrilled to arrive in, but it was growing late, and she needed to rest. The place was chaos - happily churning chaos, but chaos to be sure, and they seemed perfectly content to stay that way. There was no structure, no bureaucracy, and most definitely no paperwork. She'd resolved to stay for just one night, then be on her way, hopefully to somewhere more civilized. It wasn't that the dragons of this clan weren't polite - they were very welcoming, and quickly ushered Secrecy to a place near a roaring fire where there was clean bedding and fresh food - it was just that their life wasn't compatible with her own. Her interest was only piqued when she ran into another traveling dragon - or rather, the tiny fae ran into her. The collision felt like barely a tap, but the fae looked stunned, and Secrecy was concerned that she'd gotten a concussion thorough enough for a solid case of amnesia, but after an introduction("Chrysocolla, but you can just call me Chrys,"), Secrecy learned that the memory issues the fae was experiencing were chronic. Secrecy decided to stay just a little longer. Secrecy and Chrys spent the next day together, then the day after that. Secrecy peppered her with questions, and Chrys peppered back, though often it was the same questions over and over. An idea grew in Secrecy's mind, and she resolved to help Chrys in the best way she knew how - with documentation and structure. Secrecy stayed close to Chrys as she worked - every morning, she reminded Chrys who she was, and that they needed to stay together until Secrecy had finished the work she was doing to help her. Chrys did her best to remember(though this frequently failed), and more than once the Gaoler had to chase her down after she absentmindedly began flying away, but Secrecy was determined to make a lasting change to the Fae's life. When the work was finally finished, she presented her gift to Chrys: a notebook and wrapped charcoal sticks, held in a tiny satchel sized perfectly for her. "You had described your memory issues to me..." Secrecy explained. "...several times, in fact, and so I devised this system. Keep the bag on you at all times - with luck, the next time your memory lapses, you will be curious as to what's inside." Chrys was delighted, writing her name inside the notebook. "If found, please return to Chrysocolla." She paused. "What else?" "Whatever you'd like," Secrecy replied. "Names of those you meet, maps of places you've been, goals of where you might like to go... anything you want to try to remember." "I'd like to remember you," the Fae responded shyly. "You've given me a great gift, and... and I've already forgotten your name." Secrecy couldn't contain her grin. "My name is Secrecy, and I would be very pleased to be the first name in your book." Chrys scribbled another few words. "This book and this bag were made by a generous Gaoler by the name of Secrecy, who I will be thankful to for as long as I can remember." Secrecy laughed at the joke. "I will accept your thanks, but my true satisfaction will be in seeing you thrive with what I've given you. You will forget me in time, and this is fine. But with luck, my work here will carry on." It certainly wasn't the office job that Secrecy had dreamed of, but there was satisfaction in the work. They parted ways not long after, but Secrecy knew she'd remember her encounter with the Fae for as long as she lived. If only Chrys could do the same! Secrecy wasn’t sure how long it had been since she had last seen a fellow Gaoler. She had heard of other unaffiliated Gaolers living outside of Ice territory, but she had never expected to meet any, particularly not here, on the fringes of the Lightweaver’s lands. The snowy mountains shone in the sun as she tried her hardest to follow in the steps of the dragon ahead of her. “You alright, darlin’ ?” The male Gaoler, a fellow named Pearl, stood a little ways ahead on the ridge, watching her climb. “Just fine, thank you.” Secrecy answered. In fact, the hike had been more strenuous than she wanted to admit. Pearl’s eyes shone with amusement. “We’re nearly there!” He bounded away happily. Secrecy wondered just what she had gotten herself into. The Gaolers of the Skyward Sun temple were few but a hearty bunch, two couples and their children. All had left the rigid roles of their ancestors behind, choosing instead to live simply while doing their part for their community. Secrecy found it admirable. She set her belongings down in a cozy cave that overlooked the temple complex, inhabited by dragons of all kinds as well as beastfolk and even some monsters. Walking through the temple proper, on her way to greet the senior inhabitants, she saw more different kinds of dragons than she had seen since her last visit to the auction house. The seniors, the closest the Temple had to leaders, lived in the innermost building in the stronghold. A male Skydancer with sparkling black feathers greeted her, lowering his head to the much larger dragon. “Welcome. I am called Fright.” Secrecy inclined her own head, careful of her horns. “Thank you for having me.” “It is our way. Though the Gaolers are not technically under my jurisdiction, you are still part of the clan. Amaterasu-no-Mikado shines His light on all who enter here.” Secrecy knew better than to say anything, but their cult amused her slightly. Imagine paying homage to some yellow Tundra of the past! The scroll hanging above the many rows of candles she could see behind Fright depicted a decidedly average-looking dragon. “Make sure to be ready for training tomorrow,” The Skydancer was saying. Secrecy returned to herself. “Training?” She berated herself internally for not listening. “Yes. All those who reside here must learn the fighting arts, the basics at least. It is our way.” He pulled a long parchment from a container on the wall and unrolled it. A table of names, numbers and locations was revealed. Secrecy felt a little more respect for the temple-dwellers upon seeing their organizational system. “There are but two first-levels in the clan now...” Fright held a brush in his claw, and was writing Secrecy into the bottom slots of the table. “You will be training with Mistress.” Secrecy felt her nostrils flare. What self-respecting dragon calls herself Mistress?! The Training Fields were breezy and sunny the next morning as Secrecy waited for her partner to appear. She was nervous enough being at the Coliseum, having to wait like this nearly put her over the edge. At last, a pair of dragons came into view at the edge of the meadow. Two Pearlcatchers, neither more than a tenth Secrecy’s size, were strolling up as if on holiday. The smaller of the two, a light purple girl with a ribbon on her tail, seemed to be trying to get the larger one to leave her. Secrecy pricked an ear to listen. “I’m fine dad! Come pick me up later!” That’s her father!? Secrecy had heard Pearlcatchers could be unusual, but this was a new level. The male, apparently the young dragon’s father, wore a frilly pink dress and a ribbon in his mane. “Mistress! Please be careful dear.” The young purple dragon seemed annoyed. “Yes dad, now please let me go, I’m late!” At last, the dragons separated. Mistress scampered over the grass as quickly as her short legs could carry her. She was a mere adolescent, and Secrecy had no doubt she could carry the little dragon in one claw. She skidded to a halt in front of Secrecy. “Hello! I’m looking forward to training with you!” She was decidedly eager. Secrecy lowered her head to face her. “I am glad to see my partner is prepared for this. I’m afraid I’ve never been in battle in my life.” Mistress made an offhand gesture. “Oh don’t worry, everyone in the Temple learns this stuff. Since you’re a Gaoler, your job is to protect me when I meditate, and hit hard when you get the chance.” Secrecy was impressed. This little lady knew her stuff. “My dad can do it, so a dragon like you can for sure.” Secrecy laughed. “All right. Let’s do our best out there.” ———————————————————————— Secrecy wandered from village to village for a few months before settling down in a nearby tavern on the outskirts of The Shifting Expanse, here she told the patrons of the tavern her wild tales of travelling the world. She befriended the owner after a few drinks and decided to stay for a bit longer then she initially planned. A few weeks fly by before Secrecy knows it and she’s on the road again! Secrecy did not like the Windstone Clan at first. Oh, they were friendly enough, but something about Wind territory bored her. Too naturey. Too dirty. Not enough office stuff. Besides, the Windstone Clan was too much like the Wandering Clan. Her skills almost did not seem to be needed. That was, until the imperial Archimedes asked her: "Have you ever tried calculating the weather?" At first, Secrecy was puzzled. But soon, Archimedes was talking about how to calculate wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, and temperature. She soon dove into the study to learn how to calculate whether rain would fall, and how much, or if it would turn to snow. If a hurricane would form off the coast. If a tornado would touch down near the Eye of the Storm. If... She lost track of time until one day, an air current carried her farther than expected while she was measuring the air speed. She decided it was time to move along. Secrecy eventually found herself at a peaceful inn, over in the Shifting Expanse. As it turned out, the Inn could use someone to help with bookkeeping. She helped with that for a time, but it only furthered her desire for a stable, long term office job in the future. Still, this would be a good experience for her resume.
