He had done all he could to hide his heritage.

He'd kept his head down, held his tongue, lashed out at anyone brave enough to approach him to keep them away, he'd avoided fights, buried his magic, his instincts. A Nightcaller and grandson of Devaduta...He knew how others would react knowing what power lies beneath his feathers and scales. Yet his attempts were futile all the same.
Death still befell him, trickling down his family tree like blood. It was Fate, after all. Hunted down by three allied clans and murdered in the mud like a dog...

How unfortunate.
A dragon, both blessed and cursed, was granted a second life, and he took it without thinking of the consequences his melded bloodlines would bring.
As though learning a third unnatural link had laid dormant in him wasn't enough, he was forced into knowing of the Underworld, and what awaited all at the end of life.

Revived, and with a newfound hatred of The Veil, Cedrel began a revolution from the safety of the shadows against those who could speak to or see the dead, strong-arming any information needed from spirits and mediums alike before disposing of them.
It was now his goal, his life's work, to widen the gap separating the living and dead even further, and he would be a wall between them for the rest of his second life if need be.

Cedrel feels the call of his Nightcaller magic in the waking world and in his dreams, it's wild and violent allure pulls at his bones. But due to his Cursed blood, he knows better than to use it unless he's at great risk of death. He is loathe to admit it, but some primal part of him fears what will happen to his mind and body if he uses his extraordinary shadow magic.
That same cursed blood grants him the ability to sense the emotions of those he's focused on to a vivid degree, and though he has yet to fully unlock what he can do with it, it makes it much harder for him to carry out his less than legal practices as a Gatekeeper.
Deep down he doesn't want to be a monster, but his cards are stacked against him and at times it feels as though his actions are not his own despite how quick he is to lash out. Perhaps he has begun disassociating, but nonetheless the constant internal struggle between the expectation of him to be a force of good as a descendant of Devaduta, despite the Curse that name carries, and the violent, nefarious nature he has as a Nightcaller of the shadows, his frustration has long since been bubbling over, and he is constantly on the brink of an anger induced meltdown.
Due to his dangerous relationship with his magic, he's become a master at causing mass hallucinations through his enchanted apparel, causing others to perceive him as casting intense shadow spells. In reality, his threats are a bluff, like a cat making itself look larger by puffing it's fur. If his intimidation tactics don't work, he obscures the vision of those around him and takes off into the shadows.

Memento Mori
Generation 11
Fortuna caeca est

Gatekeeper | Cursed | Nightcaller

Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.

Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife.

This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Moros' children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain.

Shadow is the most common element for a Nightcaller. Much like Peyton, they are believed to have been blessed by the Shadowbinder and are artfully cunning in their own right. Those that possess the element of Shadow are nefarious and secretive, getting their claws into all manner of deadly trickery.

Gen 2 - Cursed
Forever more this clutch and those who descended from them would roam Sornieth unsatisfied. Great power flowed in their veins, but every time they used it, their hunger for more would grow. It would rise up until it consumed their minds and bodies whole.

Devaduta's children do not have a proper sect of the Academy. However, their collective name can be heard in whispers in the hallways and along the streets. The Cursed. While incredibly powerful with both elemental and Warden magic, they are doomed from the beginning. Casting slowly destroys either their mind or body, rendering them extremely sickly or insane.
