Crystal grew up very independent. Her mindset was extremely cynical, so despite everything she was taught as a hatchling, she never went out of her way to get close to anyone. The loneliness never bothered her, in fact, she saw it as an advantage; because of it, Crystal had plenty of alone time to discover her interests.
She learned early on that she had a knack for cooking, specifically candy. Growing up in the Great Furnace meant that she lived in the perfect climate for growing sugar cane - heat from and humidity from the Fire Flight's volcano and Water Flight's Tsunami Flats, plus abundant land from the Zephyr Steppes.
After hearing of the cryptic and magical properties of the Arcane Flight's crystal outcroppings from a book published by a scholarly Light Spiral, she decided to investigate it for herself. It was said that on a trip to the Crystalspine Reaches, the Spiral had discovered (out of pure curiosity) that when heated, a special kind of rock could be melted into an edible goo.
Crystal packed the bare necessities and was off. On the first night of her stay at the Arcane Flight's territory, she ran into the author of the very book she had read from, Crockeroar. He offered a slot in their clan while she was visiting, which she reluctantly took.
Although not technically part of the clan, Crystal still keeps in contact with all of them, and lives on her own nearby.
