Ulric does have the basic abilities of an Asgardian, he’s long lived and considered young for his position. He is impressively strong and has high endurance. He is a very skilled fighter, preferring a sword overall, but is most skilled in combat.

For the Asgard Ulric comes from, he is a member of the Saber Riders, part of the Asgardian army, the Saber Riders were the opposite of the Wolf Riders, both were made to patrol the worlds controlled by Asgard. Saber Riders would patrol in the Spring and Summer Months, their saber-tooth tigers were able to handle the warmer weather. The wolves would patrol in the fall and winter, thanks to their thicker coats. Both Asgardian wolves and sabers had were able to tap into the bifrost and “jump” or portal themselves and their riders. (Better explained later).

Ulric’s partner in combat was Talonstorm who is also his best friend.

A massive flirt, Ulric will often be a generally friendly guy together but is also over confident in his abilities and relies heavily on Talonstorm.

The Past

Ulric, son of Strag, was born a farm boy with plenty of brothers and sisters. He falls somewhere in the middle, neither the youngest nor oldest. His family was very set in their ways: Everyone was to be a farmer. This was expected of him, that he would settle down with someone, run a farm, have kids, and pass down his farm to them. Ulric, in the general cliche had no desire to stay on the farm and instead decided he’d enlist with the Asgardian Army but he wanted to be a rider.

At first Ulric wished to be a Wolf Rider, his name even meaning Powerful Wolf he thought it would be his destiny, of course things did not go as planned.

During the changing of the riders which was a festival that would happen twice a year, there would be a tournament where potential new recruits could show off their abilities and try to get recruited by a Captain. Each Wolf Captain and Saber Captain could pick one new recruit to essentially sponsor into training. This meant that positions were slim but not impossible. Most recruits would be picked by one team when they were switching to their off season: wolves trained in the spring and summer, sabers trained in the fall and winter. Ulric as a result was in the tournament when the sabers were switching to patrolling.

These festivals were often big deals to the riders, saber riders would try to win favor from Frigga and Loki, where wolf riders would try to win favor from Odin and Thor. Both sides would compete to show off, and the recruiting tournaments would happen when less people were paying attention. Merchants would come from all over to show off their special wares during these festivals. Due to them being a big deal it was easy for Ulric to get to the festival without his family noticing as they would be going anyways to sell some of their fruits and vegetables.

Ulric slipped off to participate in the tournament but ultimately no Wolf Captain chose him, though some did encourage him to try again after training a little more. At first Ulric was disheartened but a Saber Captain offered to let him train with the sabers, this was uncommon due to the fact the Saber Riders would be going on duty after the festival. Ulric decided to jump at the chance, even if it meant he wasn’t going to be a Wolf Rider.

Ulric spent the first few months in basic combat training and working in the stables as most trainers were off patrolling. Living on the Outpost, the main home of the Saber Riders, meant he learned a lot about how they operated. This gave him a massive advantage when the rest of the recruits were brought in during the Fall. Ulric was able to prove himself a hard worker and ultimately he was able to reach the point where he got his own saber.

Ulric’s first saber was Thundertail. It was common for riders to choose names that would honor various warriors and members of royalty, Thor at the time was a favorite even though Saber Riders tried to get favor from Frigga and Loki. Ulric worked hard with Thundertail and was eventually put onto a unit and made a full fledged rider.

During a routine patrol, his unit was ambushed by giants. During this fight the unit’s Captain was killed and they were pushed back into hiding. Thundertail was gravely injured and despite their medic’s attempt did not make it. Ulric did not let his grief stop him, he took command to help what remained of his unit push back against the giants who pinned him down. His quick thinking and leadership resulted in him being promoted to a Captain, the youngest the riders had. Ulric was given time to grieve over the loss of Thundertail, but eventually he had to move on. He soon met his second saber, Talonstorm and the two became fast friends. Despite the promotion, Ulric never moved Talonstorm into the Captain’s Stables where all other captains housed their own sabers on the Outpost. Instead he kept her in the reserves stables, which was close to the barracks he had a room in.

MCU - Ragnarok

Ulric barely survived Hel. Talon had reared during the fight and took the brunt of one of Hel’s spikes, saving Ulric from a fatal blow, both were left to bleed out. Talon was too stubborn to die and was able to drag Ulric to Heimdall where she soon collapsed. Both were bandaged up and made it off of Asgard, Ulric eventually recovered form his injury, but Talon had a limp she did not recover from.

Talon is at 5 foot around the shoulder, and tend to keep her head levels with her shoulders much like a tiger does unless she's alert to something or needs to stare Ulric down for some reason.

She tends to laze about when she can, enjoying the sun. She also enjoys fishing.

Asgardian sabers in general have above average intelligence which allows them to get along with their rider well. They form a very strong bond with their rider and loss of a rider can cause great emotional distress for them. At the same time if someone kills their rider, they will stop at nothing to seek revenge.


Asgardian Sabers come in a variety of forms. Talon is a Standard Saber on the edge of ambusher

Standard sabers are the most common.

Trackers are smaller sabers rarely used in combat, very few are trained as most smaller sabers are flagged at a young age to be pets or guard farm land.

Ambushers are known for powerful shoulders and darker pelts, they climb trees with their rider hanging on and are feared for their silence.

Bruisers are bulky sabers who have thick fur. A bruiser saber is slower but us made to ram through walls.

All sabers can tap into magic to teleport across realms, their location is based on what their rider can see in their mind, though a saber can ride another's jump. Due to this Captains are expected to carry the jumps of their squad to keep them together.

It can take time for sabers to switch what magic they use, they commonly tap into the Bifrost to jump but once it was closed those that remained needed to find a new source.

Saber cubs are often tested for temperament at a young age. Those not suitable for riders will either be released in a safe place to learn to survive on their own, or will end up as pets though pets are more commonly the runts of a litter. Several sabers are kept as backup for supply runs or to temporarily replace a saber who is injured or mating.
