Biography
When Lani set out to Find Something To Guard... Well, something felt wrong about it. She'd grown up in the Scrublair (not so scrubby as it once was), after her contract was bought as a hatchling Guardian, and when she didn't find anything after a time... She returned. Discontent. Cranky. Pacing the rounds to guard the lair because that's what was expected.
And then Andromeda came back with the magic scroll that could shift someone's form, someone's very blood and bones, to another kind of dragon.
Andromeda called a council. It had been a very expensive purchase, and while she was sorely tempted by it herself... She didn't want to lose a pair of eyes to it. So she asked for volunteers. Who would step forward? Who would give a reason why the lair should give the magic to them?
Not an easy thing to contemplate: becoming not just different in hide and wing, but entirely new, and ferocious, filled with a hot temper.
And after some of the others had mumbled their way through half-hearted volunteering... Lani stepped forward, full of the certainty that she'd been told she'd know when she found a thing to Guard. And she said, ''Me. It's for me. I am triple-colored like the sky. My hide is a blank slate for the best of magics to adorn. But I'm a Guardian without a charge, and my children would only ever serve the gods. I volunteer, and I will hunt for the lair, I will fight for the lair, I will use my new, nimble hands to keep the lair beautiful. And I will dance, on two legs.''
Andromeda looked to her right and left, at her mate and her chief advisor, and they nodded. So the Mirror held the scroll open and Lani read it, invoking the magic.
And it was perfect.
