BIG BOSS

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Tomi was a precocious child, self sufficient by the age of twelve and without a permanent residence. His father, a man by the name of Dumi, was a well known conman in Neo Necropolis. He was so well known that he owed just about every ne’er do well in the city. Always borrowing a little here, a little there, and never returning the favor.

“Don’t worry!” he’d say with a knife sharp smile, “I’ll pay you back with interest!”

Dumi worked nights at a casino and with his mother completely out of the picture, Tomi was forced to go to work with him. It was that or sit at home and listen to the neighbors of the week argue. It wasn’t all bad, of course. The waitresses were kind to him and since he was Dumi’s kid everyone made sure to keep an eye on him.

Another benefit to tagging along with his father was the little pieces of conversations he would pick up. Business dealings, who owed who what, who the high rollers were, and who to avoid at all costs. As he got older, Tomi’s interest in becoming a well respected businessman firmly took hold, cementing itself in his mind as the ultimate goal. He wanted to be the person people owed, the person people answered to. Hell was turning into his father, hell was being no better than the gum on the bottom of someone’s shoe.

All the things, as harsh as it might be, that his father was considered.

His motivations weren’t all selfish. If he succeeded his father wouldn’t have to worry anymore. He’d be taken care of, able to retire comfortably instead of scrounging like a rat, and Tomi would be able to pay off all of his debts.

It wouldn’t be easy, but Tomi was a clever man and he’d already made plenty of friends at the casino; friends with money, friends with connections. Over the years and with a little bit of help from these aforementioned friends, Tomi managed to get himself a position at a company in the heart of Neo Necropolis.

The company he want to work for, Nexsystems Incorporated, was one of the largest manufacturers of cybernetic body modifications in the city. Tomi had managed to get himself onto the ground floor without a bachelor’s degree and a suit he’d borrowed from his dad. Right off the bat, he endeared himself to his coworkers. Ever the charmer he knew how to say and do all the right things, something that rubbed off on him in all his years of watching his father schmooze people left and right.

Without a formal education, it took a bit of time but Tomi did begin to move up the ranks. With his quick mind, good looks, and interesting ideas, he eventually caught the eye of the owner of Nexsystems, a woman named Amahle. Amahle believed that Tomi had the makings of the perfect CEO. Someone with experience dealing with and talking to people from all walks of life and, most importantly, someone who could convince just about anyone to buy their product.

There was one other man she had her eye on, a good friend Tomi had made while working there named Zola. The two men had bonded over their mutually unconventional upbringings and had then become as thick as thieves. In the end, the choice was clear and Tomi was chosen for the position. Though Zola appeared supportive and excited for his friend, underneath the surface he was seething.

With Tomi as CEO, Nexsystems flourished. He was ruthless when he needed to be and understanding of the needs of his employees, a hard combination to manage but he did it with grace and style. He was also able to do as he’d always wanted to and paid off his father’s debts despite the fact that the two hadn’t been on speaking terms for many years.

However, things would not remain so positive.

There were rumblings that someone was selling off company secrets to a rival manufacturer, Condor Industries. An investigation was launched immediately and the findings were shocking. According to the evidence, it was none other than Tomi who was responsible for the betrayal. Naturally, Tomi was stunned. He would never betray the company or the people who gave him his chance at a better life.

No matter what he said, no matter how well he pleaded his case, the choice to fire him had already been made. It didn’t take very long for Tomi to figure out what had happened and who the real culprit was. Zola immediately took his place as CEO of Nexus and the smug smile on his face said it all. Betrayed by one of the people he trusted most, Tomi vowed to get his revenge.

But first, he had to find a new business to throw himself into, something that was his and his alone. It wasn’t long before an idea came to him, an establishment that offered lonely men and women company unlike any before it. Instead of setting up shop in Neo Necropolis, he decided to take his business venture northwest, all the way into the heart of Plague.

Why you might ask? Well, it’s simple really. What he planned to offer was something he was certain the dragons of Plague had never experienced before. He planned to return home to the city he loved of course, richer and prepared to prove his innocence to Amahle. Until then the hunt for talent was on and boy did he hit the jackpot.

As it would happen two of Neo Necropolis’s most famous “entertainers” were also on their way out, running from their own problems, and so a chance meeting occurred. It must be fate if THE Azizi and Gogo had fallen into his lap. Together they set off to a new life and The Velvet Fang was born.

A huge success, Tomi took on a new name: Big Boss. Yes, it might be a little silly but it stuck and at the very least he’s a big (ha!) fan of it. The Velvet Fang offers a Neo Necropolis experience with tech only found in Lightning territory. Neon lights, loud synth music, and high city fashion to name a few things. The boys who work for Big Boss are well taken care of, each with their own personal bedrooms designed to their specifications.

Most men in the same line of business as Big Boss wouldn’t bother to go above and beyond for the people in their employ, but not him. His boys’ safety and comfort are first and foremost, as such he makes sure that they are well taken care of and looked after. This is why it was a no brainer to hire the sub rosa when their new next door neighbors ( The Syndicate) came a-knocking and asking questions.

In fact, Big Boss and Tau (twin brother to the king of mercenaries) hit it off so well that the two spend lots of casual time together. It’s hard for Tomi to open his heart to the idea of letting someone else in who could betray him the way Zola did but, for whatever reason, it’s hard not to smile when Tau is around.

• Tomi has a great sense of humor and his fashion style ranges from loud silk robes and slippers to extravagant suits.

• There’s a very permanent and sharp-toothed smile that never seems to leave his face which is infectious- or so he’s been told, anyway.

• For a businessman, he’s very caring and does actually listen to the needs of his employees. Ruthless as he can be, above all else he knows that if you treat people right they’ll be loyal and more likely to do a good job.

• Tomi is a bit of a dork and is not immune to dad jokes and bad puns. What?! He can’t help himself!

• He’s protective of all the boys who work for him but, much like everyone else, especially so with Gogo.

• Tomi considers Tau to be his best friend, but there is a wall he keeps between them just in case. He’s keenly aware of this and wants nothing more than to smash that wall into little pieces, but the what-ifs keep him afraid. Not that he’d admit that.
