PERSONALITY

At once arrogant and insecure, Bilberrios is a fascinating mess of contradictions that most dragons find utterly infuriating. Deeply set on his research, Bil sometimes goes days in his lab without breaks with his children and Porcelain some of the only ones able to pull him out. He's also generally not a very good father, considering what everyone else calls his children to be his creations. Truthfully they are his creations, brewed up in his cauldron, but they are also people more than his experiments, something he struggles to reconcile.

He is learning, albeit slowly. Then again, it took him most of his life to learn all he's learned about gene and breed alterations - who knows how long it'll take for him to learn to balance his emotions, when he's already not the best at them?

ABOUT

Bilberrios is a curious dragon, with a deep love of scholarly study. Started by his own nature, Bil wished to understand why, when he has primarily albinistic and leucistic pigment genes, his patterns allow for considerable melanisim. It seems, to him, to be an inconsistency, and his studies lasted for many years.

While he would never say he fully understands it, he does now have a surprisingly comprehensive grasp of the magical means of assessing and even altering these things - Scatterscrolls, Scrolls of Permanent Youth, Enchanted Scrolls to alter one's pattern genetics or breed as well as the newly created potions that can alter the formation of a dragon's eye - though not their elemental affinity.

Indeed, his own Capsule helps with this. While primarily used for gas and nutrient exchange, his studies have also granted him a better understanding of it's nature and he can now use it to create some of the magical inks and potion slurries necessary to imbue a Scroll or a Vial - as well as to help balance the out-of-whack physiology of a dragon being so changed. Most dragons of the clan, should they wish for some degree of self-alteration, go to Bilberrios for the necessary scrolls and procedures and he takes exacting care of them.

It is then, perhaps, quite jarring to consider where his research has gone in recent years. While stringently ethical in his treatment of the various dragons which come to him and often seen assisting his wife, Porcelain, in ensuring the health and wellbeing of all of the clan's dragons, he began dabbling in the creation of life ex nihilo.

Panoptes was the first of these - albeit almost entirely accidental as he sought to find a replacement for Alchemical Muck, which he believes still carries an essence of life due to it being sourced from Familiars - and he has continued to study. Verbana was the result of him using the same essence as used to make Pan when brewing a Bogsneak egg - however, he didn't use enough, which has resulted in her haemophagy. Cenotaph was likewise a lack of life energy, and the creation of Brea, when attempting to repeat and refine the Panoptes experiment led him onto creating Chalice.

However his absolute prize is Fauna, his latest creation, true life from nothing, and to his exact specifications besides.

Now he supposes, he faces a new challenge. As his wife - and... well, their children, he supposes - demand, he must learn to be a parent.

He did make these children, after all.

RELATIONSHIPS

Porcelain | Beloved Wife

Bil generally isn't good at... emotions. Or the expressing thereof. It took him a long time to work up to speaking to Porcelain and for them to build their bond - but there's none he loves as he does her. There's a reason she's the only one who can cow him, the one who's successfully been pushing him to become a better parent to his creations. He doesn't want to let her down.

Tabian | Scholarly Rival

His great rival and Porcelain's dear friend, Bil's feelings regarding Tabian are best described as "complicated".

In simpler terms, Bil has a good deal of envy for Tabian's easy way with other dragons, and for how, often, Porcelain is more comfortable going to Tabian with problems than him. He knows the answer to this is to improve as she's been pushing him to - but it is hard work. Generally, Tabian simply thinks that Bil is at once immature and stuck up, and wishes he'd do better for sake of Porcelain and the children.

Panoptes & Brea | Frustrating Experiments

*Deep Sigh*

Panoptes wasn't even intentionally created! Brea was at least, and she does seem to be genuinely interested in what he does, but oh Eleven couldn't they both just let him work, sometimes? Though he supposes that Brea's insistence on him teaching her does mean that he has had... some practice parenting? Does that count? He considers the other children. Probably not enough experience, he decides.

Verbana, Cenotaph, Chalice, Fauna | More Successful Creations

Bil has... mixed feelings about his other creations. Verbana is... frustrating, extremely bright but so clearly set against him. Cenotaph is... hollow, and he doesn't know what to make of her. Chalice is a wonderful success, but has become so spiteful recently, and then Fauna...

Fauna is his greatest success. He doesn't understand why she seems to dislike him so.
